Today, I learned that my high school is now a Muslim school, possibly even teaching a Madrassa curriculum. How does a person get his mind around something so unthinkable? I played football and baseball there–tormented my teachers and had my first love affair. I loved that old school. According to the Washington Post, where I learned about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, my fellow students now are learning, “one sign of the Day of Judgment will be that Muslims will fight and kill Jews, who will hide behind trees that say: ‘Oh Muslim, Oh servant of God, there is a Jew hiding behind me. Come here and kill him.’” (from their 11th grade textbook).
Where the most likely to succeed of my fellow graduates went on to become doctors and lawyers, the following is a most likely to succeed candidate graduate from my old high school:
”An American citizen whose father worked for the Saudi Embassy is convicted for conspiring with Al Qaida operatives to assassinate President George W. Bush. Abu Ali attended the Saudi Islamic Academy in Alexandria., Va. He even became a member of the National Honor Society. In his senior year, Ali's classmates voted him ‘the most likely to become a martyr.’” (From NBC4.com)
I feel like walking up and down the streets with a sign saying THE END IS NEAR!! Madrassa on Main Street

From a report by the AP: The school's director-general, Abdalla I. Al-Shabnan, said Wednesday that he had not seen the report. But he said the academy has adjusted its curriculum in recent years and removed some of the inflammatory language that had been included in the Saudi text. The school's curriculum may now serve as a model for the Saudi government to use in continuing its reform of Saudi schools, he said.
"There is nothing in our curriculum against any religion," Al-Shabnan said.
HE ALSO SAID HE IS WILLING TO SHOW THE SCHOOL'S CURRICULUM AND TEXTBOOKS TO ANYBODY WHO WANTS TO SEE THEM, AND HE EXPRESSED DISAPPOINTMENT THAT THE COMMISSION DID NOT REQUEST MATERIALS DIRECTLY FROM THE SCHOOL.
(It seems they used Saudi texts and Saudi schools as the basis for the report)
"We have an open policy," he said.
He also pointed out that many of the school's teachers are Christian and Jewish.
After the Sept. 11 attacks, critics questioned the nature of the religious education at the Saudi academy. The school again found itself in the spotlight in 2005, when a former class valedictorian, Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, was charged with joining al-Qaida WHILE ATTENDING COLLEGE IN SAUDI ARABIA and plotting to assassinate President Bush. (emphasis added)
In a related story an individual identified as “Shyster” is bring suit to force a Federal examination of all christian schools in the US from preschool through college level.
Ignoring the First Amendment as "inconvenient," Shyster claimed that the schools teach religious intolerance. He said, “It’s my understanding that most, if not all, of these schools teach that if you do not accept and follow their leader as ‘god’ that you will spend eternity being tortured in what they call ‘hell fire.”
Shyster has also asked the commission to review a text used extensively in the schools, called “The Bible.” He cited factual, historical and scientific inaccuracy as well as the promotion of slavery and polygamy as among the many reasons for the request.
Blogger, don’t worry; if you, as a graduate, get a headache or hangnail in the blind service to the GOP and conservative causes you will be tended to by 72 of the cheerleaders who turned you down while you were there.
Shyster, You are getting so predictable. I knew exactly how you would respond to this post. My friend, that is my dear old high school. Can’t you pause a moment and grieve with me? Have you not an ounce of compassion?
Sorry, Blogger. My high school no longer exists. If you are asking for compassion for memories lost, I will be happy to join you.
Your post had little to do with your former high school and all to do with its current use. The use offends you.
For that part of your post where the memories are clothed in intolerance, I snicker in your general direction.
At least you can hope for the 72 cheerleaders to make it all better.
Shyster, Oh well, if your high school is already gone, I will have to give up praying for it to become a Bible college. C’est la vie.
Blogger, part of the reason I have difficulty generating any compassion (aside from the obvious racism and religious intolerance) is that I was one of those uncomfortable geeks who never fit in and hated high school. I didn’t come into my own until college. To be honest, I couldn’t care less what they turned my high school into — Bible college, 7/11, gas station, chop shop or whore house.
Blogger, I understand. If the building was housing anything else, you wouldn't feel the way you do.

I thought that's what all High Schools were!
The texts in this madrassa are similar if not identical to another saudi madrassa in the u.k.
Again there, they promised to correct the text. This was after the headmistress stated that the offensive text was not read, in a t.v. interview.I don't know what the outcome was there.
This situation with islam in the west has gone beyond absurd. It is dangerous. We could lose our cilization to these &th century barbarians.
