When Obama's press Secretary says 9,000 earmarks totaling $8 Billion are no big deal, but cut $100 Million from the budget its a BIGGER deal(can you say double speak).
Listened to Right radio show today on 1200wsjs. Always Right never Left and Conservatives THINK Liberals FEEL are too great points made today on that show.
Here’s what it’s like to try to reconcile personal admiration for Obama with the contradictions of his economic agenda. One is forced to argue that he’s “the right man at the wrong time.”
This is the way it goes: Obama’s got wonderful intentions. It’s not his fault that there’s not enough money to fulfill them—and that, by stubbornly going forward with them in spite of that, he is set on a course to bankrupt the US and “topple the dollar, and with it American power.”
No, we can’t blame Obama for clinging to his agenda despite the fact that he’s driving us all over a cliff. He’s the right man; it’s only the times that are wrong.
But isn’t flexibility and judgment part of being the right man—at any time? How can a person be the “right man” if he is unable to evaluate a situation or react to it properly? That’s the mark of a fanatic, an ideologue who sticks to his plan in the face of utterly changed circumstances. A megalomaniac. And it’s hard to see how a person such as that could be the right man for any time.
President Barack Obama said he is committed to imposing fiscal discipline on the government and called on Congress to pass a law requiring any new spending be matched by higher taxes or cuts elsewhere.
Obama, in his weekly radio and Internet address, said that while his initiatives to confront the economic crisis have deepened the country's debt, his administration will "demand new thinking and a new sense of responsibility for every dollar that is spent."
Latest AP Junk Poll Includes... Get This... Only 18% Republicans! The AP is trumpeting this bombshell today... AP Poll: After Obama's 100 days, U.S. on right track
Wow! A majority of Americans believe that the US is on the right track. Really?...
No. Only 18% of those polled consider themselves Republican. Bill Mitchell discovered this latest polling outrage:
The AP is trumpeting a new poll showing that for the first time in many years, a MAJORITY of Americans believe America is headed in the right direction.
At first read you might ask yourself, how the heck is this possible?
Well it's easy is you totally jack the sample. This poll includes (get ready for it) only 18% REPUBLICANS! 18%!
I guess that's what they had to get to to reach their majority saying America is headed in the right direction.
This is an 18 point sampling advantage given to Democrats. Folks, the communist state has arrived. AP is Pravda.
Here's a closer look at the polling data:
Page 21 of the poll. Only 18% of those polled consider themselves Republican. Pravda would be proud.
Well, I will be a lemming, and follow the crowd, and present a piece on Obama’s first hundred days.
I personally think the 100 day mark is kind of ludicrous. It is completely arbitrary. Additionally, even FDR, who made it famous, thought it was kind of a joke. But it has been ingrained in political culture ever since.
Let us first examine Obama’s successes (at least, from the White House’s point of view):
* Passage of the $787 Billion Stimulus Package * Passage of $3.6 Trillion Budget * Completion of the Bank Rescue Plan * Home Foreclosure plan * Action plan for GM and Chrysler * Passage of SCHIP for children’s health care * Plan to scale down Iraq War by August 2010 * Increase surge of troops in Afghanistan * Opening relations with Cuba, Iran, and Venezuela * Planned closure of Guantanamo Bay. * Planned release of torture memos.
For liberals, that is a great start.
Now, let us look at the failures, from a conservatives point of view:
* The almost $800 Billion stimulus package has barely produced a dent in the economy. Less than 2% of that total has been spent at this point, even considering Mr. Obama’s proposed ’shovel-ready’ projects. * The $3.6 Trillion Budget also promises to increase the National deficit by $4 Trillion by the end of his first term; in other words, he will spend almost twice as much in four years as Bush 43 did in 8 years. And there appears to be no end in sight. * The country lost approximately 2.3 million jobs so far in 2009. The stock market is below inaugural levels. * The bank rescue plan has raised more questions than answers; such as, what to do with the troubled assets? The current plan depends on private investors…and they are hesitant to enter any government program at this time. * Increase in violence in both Iraq and Afghanistan, with worsening situation in Pakistan. * North Korea becomes a missile ready nuclear power, without any sanctions. * Iran approaches nuclear status, without any penalty. * Disarray in the intelligence sectors because of inconsistencies from the President. * Failure to roll back earmarks, which he promised. * More Cabinet nomination failures than any president in modern history. * I am sure there are many more…the New York Post has an article: ‘100 days, 100 mistakes’ if you are interested.
So this is one of those ‘glass half empty/ glass half full’ scenarios. Obama has been relatively successful in passage of the programs he targeted. And he has yet to fail to get what he wants from the Democratic Congress.
Yet, he has failed in many respects as well. He came in as the ‘post-partisan’ President, but that has been an utter disaster. He didn’t get virtually any significant Republican support for his major policy initiatives. He has actually increased polarization in the country.
Also, his poll numbers are a mix. Although he remains personally popular, his job approval numbers are on par with past presidents, such as George W. Bush (not the greatest prior example), and far below that of Ronald Reagan. His policies are not all that popular either. Right now, people like him, but are unsure of what he is doing.
090422_100daypoll
Clearly the poll numbers are decent, but not stratospheric. You cannot criticize his popularity; his is still very popular. I have continued to ask the question, are people really supportive of his policies, or just the man that he is? We just don’t know. And of course, Democrats will say it is total support of his platform, and Republicans will say vice versa. It is somewhat meaningless.
I think overall Mr. Obama has to be happy with the first 3 months. Yeah, he had some blunders, but nothing horrific. It all comes down to his policies. If they work, he will be credited. If they don’t, he will be blamed. It is as simple as that.
You're all over a lot of this already. I haven't got through it all yet but The New York Post has this in regards to the first 100 days. The 100 million in cuts represents .0027% of the budget. Woooo! His poll numbers aren't all that good either, comparatively speaking.
This is just too funny not to post. I just saw Larry Summers on Fox News Sunday and he said (paraphrasing), President Obama wants everyone to follow their American dream and I was getting started.
How's your Imagination Quotient? Here's a little test. First, imagine a stack of $100 bills. When you have a large enough stack to fill a large suitcase, you have a million bucks. Now imagine a thousand of these suitcases crammed full of $100 bills. You now have a billion dollars. Now imagine a thousand stacks of these filled suitcases. Multiply this by 32.1. Now imagine that you are to borrow and spend all this in eight years at daily compound interest. Welcome to Obamanomics 101. Okay, you only have to pay the interest on this money for a few years and then you can retire wealthy with a great pension plan. You can leave the principal for someone else to clean up. How are you going to do it? First you take over the top 1000 financial institutions, some major manufacturers and insurance companies. Next you take over 17% of the GDP by assuming control of health care. All you have to do at this point is increase everybody's taxes without directly admitting that you're doing it. NO problem. Simply ram the cap and trade bill through the legislature and swear that you are saving the planet. It will take a little work, by jetting about seeking new audiences for your teleprompter readings, but you have a press that will give you a standing ovation no matter what you do. It's easy if you don't care about the hardships you will impose on the American public. With socialism in charge of the money and academia, you will go down in history as the greatest president that ever lived because history is written by the winners. Those that object can be ridiculed as liars, extremists, bigots, homophobes and racists. It's a sweet deal if you have the stomach for it.
Here are some questions the Washington press corps won't be asking the president. .--How many years do you estimate it will take the public to pay the federal debt?---How many of those green, high tech jobs will be available to the public this year?---How much of our trade deficit will be reduced this year?---Do you think that the cap and trade bill will be hard on the working poor and people on limited incomes?---How much will the GDP be increased this year?---How many gallons of fuel has Air Force One used transporting you for teleprompter readings since you took office?---You have said that you would welcome a debate on your policies. Would you tell us with whom and when?---How much will private sector jobs decrease this year?---How much has the federal government increased since you took office?---Do you think the Federal Reserve should tell the public where the billions of taxdollars that it controls are going?---How many of Bush's spending policies did you object to while you were a senator?---Do you believe that a wind farm should be installed in Hyannis Port despite objections by the Kennedys?--- Do you think that solar panels should be installed in California deserts despite claims from environmentalists that doing so will harm the desert ecosystems?---Do you think that the proposed wind farm in Oregon should be installed despite environmentalist claims that it will kill birds and compromise the owl sanctuary?---Are you planning on installing wind turbines and solar panels at the White House?---What plans do you have to ensure that congress will reduce its carbon footprint?
Oatz, there are polls and there are polls. This came from the Washington Times.
President Obama's media cheerleaders are hailing how loved he is. But at the 100-day mark of his presidency, Mr. Obama is the second-least-popular president in 40 years.
According to Gallup's April survey, Americans have a lower approval of Mr. Obama at this point than all but one president since Gallup began tracking this in 1969. The only new president less popular was Bill Clinton, who got off to a notoriously bad start after trying to force homosexuals on the military and a federal raid in Waco, Texas, that killed 86. Mr. Obama's current approval rating of 56 percent is only one tick higher than the 55-percent approval Mr. Clinton had during those crises.
As the attached chart shows, five presidents rated higher than Mr. Obama after 100 days in office. Ronald Reagan topped the charts in April 1981 with 67 percent approval. Following the Gipper, in order of popularity, were: Jimmy Carter with 63 percent in 1977; George W. Bush with 62 percent in 2001; Richard Nixon with 61 percent in 1969; and George H.W. It's no surprise the liberal media aren't anxious to point out that their darling is less popular than George W. Bush. But given the Gallup numbers, their hurrahs could be more subdued. Wow, what a crazy world we live in.
I guess I am glad he is doing it, but to receive such press on it is absurd.
