Rules for Non-military Combatants
Sarkazein posted to Matt. (Thanks)
Matt,
The rules of war, as they relate to the Geneva convention, protect non-combatant civilians from the militaries and give rights to the armed combatants. To qualify for these rights, the armed combatants have to be seen as armed combatants. Typically a terrorist is in civilian clothes and is unmarked as an armed combatant. Since he /she is not in the uniform of a nation, and typically follows no national leader, they are not abiding by the rules. For example, the un-marked terrorists can hide among civilians, putting the civilians in harms way. If the opposing forces abide by the rules and don't intentionally kill the civilians, then they can't kill the terrorists/pirates hiding among the civilians. Then the terrorists can kill the opposition of armed combatants with an unfair advantage.
The Rules of War are respect for the people that put on the uniform and declare they are armed combatants as the Japs did.
Think about the mission of the terrorist. They act not to defeat the enemy when crashing a plane full of innocents into a building full of innocents. For this they do not qualify for any protection under the Rules of War. They make the decision to act in an un-lawful way, thus forfeiting their protection under the Rules.

Holder On Unlawful Combatants
Many thanks to o who posted this gem in the comment section.
Eric Holder on the question of whether unlawful combatants captured in the war on terror are entitled to prisoner-of-war status under the Geneva Convention. From an interview on CNN, January 2002:
One of the things we clearly want to do with these prisoners is to have an ability to interrogate them and find out what their future plans might be, where other cells are located; under the Geneva Convention that you are really limited in the amount of information that you can elicit from people.
It seems to me that given the way in which they have conducted themselves, however, that they are not, in fact, people entitled to the protection of the Geneva Convention. They are not prisoners of war. If, for instance, Mohamed Atta had survived the attack on the World Trade Center, would we now be calling him a prisoner of war? I think not. Should Zacarias Moussaoui be called a prisoner of war? Again, I think not.

Training Obama
Because the still in training Obama does not know how to react to atrocious insults, he needs to watch this video over and over. This is the way the experienced grown-ups respond.

A Few Media Reported It, But Did You See It?

The media did report that 2000 pizzas were sent to Iraq on July 4th... The only part they left out of the report was the event for which the pizzas were sent. Largest Re-enlistment Ever

NCGOP Press Release
April 15, 2009
RALEIGH- North Carolina based left-leaning polling firm, Public Policy Polling, released their latest poll showing a steep decline in the approval rating of Governor Beverly Perdue. Perdue's approval rating stands at just 41 percent with 40 percent of voters disapproving of the job she is doing as governor. Last month, the margin stood at 44/35. The drop in Perdue's approval numbers was consistent across party lines with a ten point drop among Democrats, a seven point drop among Republicans, and a seven point drop among independents. This month, while 61 percent of Democrats approve of the job Perdue is doing and just 22 percent disapprove, those numbers provide a sharp contrast with Republicans and independents. Only 16 percent of Republicans approve of Perdue while 62 percent disapprove. Among independents, 45 percent disapprove of Perdue and only 36 percent approve.

Goldman Pushes Stock Issue in Plan to Escape U.S. Grip
Good news from tomorrow's on-line Wall Street Journal. Now let's watch and see if Obama lets them escape.
"Goldman Sachs Group Inc., frustrated at federally mandated pay caps, has been plotting for months to get out from under the government's thumb.
On Monday, Goldman took fresh steps to break free: It announced, as expected, that it plans to raise $5 billion by selling new common shares to investors, and that it would like to use the money to repay government bailout money received last year. The firm also reported stronger-than-expected first-quarter earnings of $1.81 billion."

Obama's First Time Out Got It Right
The following is from the conservative National Review:
Obama & the Rescue [Jonah Goldberg]
My morning in-box is full of snark and bile from some folks who think I shouldn't have congratulated President Obama for the rescue last night. It does sound like some of the reports saying he personally ordered the rescue were misleading. But you know what? Congratulations anyway. It's good news the captain was rescued; Obama is the commander-in-chief and this happened on his watch; if he were thoroughly Carteresque he would have ordered that the pirates not be harmed, and you can be sure some of the snark-and-bilers would be blaming Obama if this ended badly (and I might have been one of them).

THERE IS ALSO TO BE ONE AT 4P.M. - 6.PM AT THE HARDEES PARKING LOT ON 321 NEAR THE CONVOCATION CENTER.
MORE:
A group of concerned citizens is holding a Tax Day Tea Party, Wednesday April 15th, from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at the Hardee’s parking lot across from the Holmes Convocation Center in Boone. The purpose of the Tax Day Tea Party, one of hundreds being held across the country, is to protest reckless governmental growth and spending and to insist on protecting our nation's Constitution. The event is non-partisan and is not sponsored by the Republican or Democratic parties. It is open to all ages and political persuasions. We will have several speakers, so bring your families and friends. This will be a peaceful protest to join with the many who share a common belief in the value of liberty and personal responsibility.
Matt adds:
matt has left a new comment on your post "TEA PARTIES":
POV,
It was my idea to focus more on taxes and the economy.
But if people who are speaking want to talk about something else...I am not going to stop them.
My goal for this is for people to have a good time, meet some new folks, let people know they are not alone in their disapproval of government. We do need a better course of action which I hope we will talk about as well.

From Conservative Underground
Liberals who comment on this blog keep asking us why we don't support this new administration. Here is how one conservative organization, Human Events answers:
Dear Fellow Conservative:
During his campaign, Barack Obama often spoke of his desire to "remake" America, to be a "transformational" President.
Not "restore," mind you. Not "rebuild." "Remake" -- as in, turning America into something it wasn't before.
Transforming it.
And over the next few months, President Obama and the Democrats in Congress plan to deliver on that promise.
Under color of "solving" an economic crisis that their buddies helped create and their policies will only make worse, they are engineering the most radical change in the relationship between our government and its citizens in America's 233-year history.
This is not "change" as you and I want it.
And if they succeed, the country you and I know and love will no longer exist. Everything we conservatives have fought to defend and preserve will have been lost.
In its place will be a country we scarcely recognize. What will it look like? Let me give you a glimpse...
IT WILL BE AN AMERICA where a majority of citizens receive lavish government handouts and benefits but pay no federal income taxes, meanwhile voting themselves still more benefits from the shrinking minority who do pay taxes -- at ever more "progressive" rates
IT WILL BE AN AMERICA where "universal health care" means waiting months, even years, for urgently needed treatment -- unless you happen to be politically powerful or connected -- and where all your private medical information is on a government database (don't worry: they promise never to use it against you!)
IT WILL BE AN AMERICA where "green" ideologues and other nanny-staters dictate what we drive, what we eat, home energy usage, the size of our houses, and even how many children we can have
IT WILL BE AN AMERICA where our major industries, crippled by government mandates, taxes, and regulations, end up becoming taxpayer-supported dinosaurs that can no longer compete in the global marketplace
IT WILL BE AN AMERICA where all employers will be forced to hire and promote not according to ability but according to race, gender, and ethnicity -- all in the name of "diversity"
IT WILL BE AN AMERICA where our once-great centers of finance, industry, culture, and innovation -- from New York to Silicon Valley -- will have gone to seed, while only Washington, D.C., and its environs prosper
IT WILL BE AN AMERICA, in short, where only politicians, government bureaucrats, and their favored constituencies are able to thrive -- and where the only "liberty" that remains is the government's unlimited freedom to control every aspect of your life
I ask you now, my friend: Would you want to live in such an America? Would you want to bequeath such an America to your children and grandchildren?

No Matter Final Outcome in NY, Obama Loses
Dead Heat in NY Congressional Race, But Obama Undermined
The two candidates in a New York congressional special election viewed as a referendum on the Obama administration are separated by just 65 votes with thousands of absentee ballots yet to be counted. But one clear loser has emerged: a president whose popularity was put on the line to support the Democratic candidate in a Democrat-leaning district.
