Where's the outrage?
Campaigner Obama promised to give Americans what they thought they wanted knowing he couldn't deliver if elected. In other cases he hid his true intentions. I don't know what's better or worse, his broken or kept promises. Just words.

The problems I have with the Patriot Act is the violation of the rule of law and the protections of the Fourth Amendment provided to U.S. Citizens. I do not have a problem when it is applied to foreign nationals, either in or out of the country.

Obama curb government power? I didn't need a chrystal ball to predict this one.
Could we please have a thread on the Supreme Court hearing on the Second Amendment?

I will now shut up and quit splitting the thread.
I agree with Guy. It may be a good thing though...who would you consider that has a terrorist mind? Liberals.
Well, the Republicans have set up the mechanism for a police state, so why does anyone think the dems wouldn't want it?
I have yet to see the provision that violates the fourth amendment rights of Americans. Maybe it's there, I'd like to see it.

Wolf,
Interestingly put. Having a "mechanism" in place for a police state is different than a police state. I'm willing to give you that. Guy has essentially said that he doesn't trust a government with that mechanism not to use it on Americans. I understand that too.
Having said that, I just don't believe the Patriot Act equals a police state. I agree with Ben Franklin's statement but strongly disagree that it applies. We don't have to choose between security and liberty. Best I can tell the Patriot Act gives us both.
