Please Sir, Can I Have Some More?
What's so hard about saying the courts have no right to tell people what to eat? The MSM is calling this a "gotcha" question that will never come up but I'm not so sure. Think about it, if government is paying for health care then why wouldn't they say you aren't allowed live on a diet of bacon and Twinkies?

What I would like to see is the government stop subsiding sugar and corn which make up far too much of the American diet and subsidize local grown produce and fruits for small family farmers making higher quality food availible to familes at a reasonable cost.
Sugar should even be taxed to make it less profitable for use as a filler by Kraft and the food industry.

No one knows what causes Type 1 Diabetes. It's not genetic, as with many families including mine, there is ZERO history of diabetes. There is some evidence that it may be environmental, such as a complication from immunizations or chemical exposure, with perhaps a genetic "trigger", or susceptibility to some pollutant.
Sugar, by itself DOES NOT CAUSE CHILDREN TO DEVELOP DIABETES.

If government (us) ends up paying for health care then to be good stewards of our money they must tell us to limit sugar... and trans fats... and alcohol... and cigarettes... and motorcycles... and skydiving... and every aspect of our lives. I suspect that was Kagan's line of reasoning.

Fruits have sugar in them, remember your grade school science classes? Your just substituting one sugar for another.
Carbohydrates are converted to sugar for use by the body, it just takes longer for them to be converted and absorbed. Rice, potatoes, wheat, corn all have carbs. Rice is more easily converted to sugar than the others.
Gov't needs to sop subsidizing ANYTHING, including your "local food provider". If it's economical they will survive, if not they are not efficient enough to compete.

Why must my fellow conservatives talk foolishness about the food we eat. It's obvious that sugar is a huge issue and a problem for us all, and those who choose to eat processed foods loaded with it. Why are you arguing about this? Should the govt. tell you what to eat, no. But it's doing that in our public schools. None of us had ADHD when we were kids - we played outside, and most of our parents had gardens, Mom's were home and cooked for us. Anonymous- In the Fifties and Sixties when I was a kid, we ate sugar sandwiches on white bread. Probably the same in the Forties. We had processed food all the time. Kool-aide with cups of sugar, lemonade with cups of sugar, cigarettes and booze were everywhere. Yet you could still count my ribs.
Cake with sugar and flour. All problems today are caused by liberalism... including unemployment in our youth. I watched every TV show for kids that came on in the fifties. I sat in front of the TV staring at the test pattern until Superman came on at 5pm. We had TV dinners and all store-bought foods.
Conservatives do take-care of the environment, we just don't buy 9 bathroom houses or build 28,00SF houses and tell others to "conserve". The Left holds these issues because the Left MSM media allow it and support it... not because it is true.

What we do want is an end to government subsides for high fructose corn syrup and its use in nearly all processed foods. We want an end to sugar subsidies.
We want healthy food with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables in school lunch programs with limits of sugar and high fructose corn syrup in processed foods and a junk food removed from food stamp program.
We don't think foods with high fructose corn syrup as the number or number two ingredient in a processed food is a good idea.
