EXPOSING EARMARKS HARRY REID PULLED IT 9:00 P.M. THURSDAY!

Earmark

I first opened this with my Office. The second time, it opened itself with Office.com on line. You can then go to Edit Find and just look for earmarks of anyone you are interest in. I received a letter from Sen. Burr just today outlining his passionate attack on earmarks. Then I looked his up. He has a lot of them including several over one million dollars. I will add however, that none of his seem to be the absurd ones, several even being for the military. Still. . . .

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise the Republicans play you for fools they don't care about you, your family, the deficit, your kids dying in endless wars or jobs they just want the power and to protecting the billionaires who keep them in office.

On Wednesday it was reported that far left Representative Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) proposed a $48 billion earmark to redistribute taxpayer money to the inner city.

Liberal POV go to his site, click legislation, click fiscal 2011, scroll down last item.....Bam $48 BILLION ...Phase One...WTF Liberal POV.....

I even gave you directions to find it yourself.

Misinformation media?

Is the 48 billion in the bill?

This is what the congressman has to say.

"Earmarks are funds requested by a Member of Congress to be placed in an appropriation bill. These bills fund the government's many programs and operations and carry with them federal funds that can be used by local governments and organizations. In an effort to make this cryptic process more transparent, all earmarks requested of the Congressman are posted below.

FY 2011 earmarks requested from Congressman Cleaver's Office>>

It is important to note that this list is not what has been chosen to be funded. Members of Congress who sit on the Appropriations Subcommittees will make the final judgment on what projects will be funded. Very few of these projects will ultimately be funded, but the Congressman will fight for every one he submits.

The Congressman believes this list demonstrates two things. First, that while the term earmark conjures images of “bridges to nowhere” and pork barrel sweetheart projects, this list tells a different story. These are community shelters, soup kitchens, free clinics and cities’ programs. This list also demonstrates the enormous need facing our community and communities throughout the nation.

President Kennedy had on his desk a simple prayer which captures the plight of so many of our community’s service organizations, "O God, the sea is so great and my boat is so small." While it will never be enough, Congressman Cleaver will do all that he can to bring your federal tax dollars back home to ease the ever-increasing need."

A few comments on the omnibus and the earmarks:

The omnibus is the result of Congress having NOT PASSED A BUDGET! If Congress had done its job, the omnibus wouldn't be necessary. The modern budgeting process was established by Congressional act in 1974 and this is the first time that Congress has failed to adopt a budget.

A lot of the earmarks are from Republicans, but are from any and all requests all year that could have been addressed in the budget process. Democratic Senators caucused privately and produced this monstrosity. Suspicions are that Democrats included these earmarks to keep Republicans from protesting and if they did, then Democrats could attack them for being hypocrites (thanks, Special Report). I applaud Republican Congresspersons who have earmarks in the bill but have announced they will vote against it. At least they are acting like they have heard the voters unlike the Democrats who are basically giving the country the bird.

I personally am not opposed to Congresspersons requesting funds for their state or district. They should just be "transparent" as this President promised. The process of Senators attaching riders to unrelated bills or creating huge omnibus bills that are not openly debated or even made public until the last minute reeks of corruption.

Do you really think this will be cured when the Republicans are in charge?

Why was it so out of control before 2006 when Republicans were in charge?

Nobody said...

Because ALL politicians want to get reelected and see this as a way of getting votes. It's why I believe in rule of law, not rule of men. You seem to believe in rule of men -- people (namely, you) get to decide who is a "good" rich person (as you have stated with Gates, Jobs and others) and who is an "evil" rich person (any unnamed CEO of the moment -- apparently the CEO of Hardees and Dollar General) and you would treat them differently. You would not have the law applied equally. You would pick and choose. I say if the law dictates how money is to be appropriated, it should be followed. As another poster has already pointed out, the Constitution states that all taxing and spending bills must originate in the House. Why is this omnibus in the Senate? Because men have found ways to circumvent the law.

Not at all it can be done with simple math if the employees are paid a wage they can raise a family on modestly, able to buy or rent a modest home, feed their families a health diet, pay for transportation to work, take a couple of weeks vacation, save for retirement and the kids college fund, pay taxes all without taxpayer assistance they work for the good guys and responsible capitalist. the rest are driven by greed alone.
I do emphasize this should apply to publicly traded corporations should limit management compensation to making no more than five times the lowest paid employees and no dividends until all full time employees make a living wage.
This may create an opportunity to bring back owner operated local businesses and actually increase real capitalism.

The thieves on wall street continue to steal from working Americans like common criminals but never held accountable. Sometimes they offer one of their own as with Bernie Madoff to be sacrificed but he was no worst than the rest.

"Because men have found ways to circumvent the law."

I agree but now they write the laws with that plan in mind.

The political system is broken and if the Republican reformed tomorrow, we would still have the Democrats to pry out of the pockets of the same billionaires.

The Republicans don't even try to hide it.

"Not at all it can be done with simple math if the employees are paid a wage they can raise a family on modestly..."

Blah, blah, blah. Here's the painful truth. I'll state it so you can misconstrue it. Labor is paid according to the laws of supply and demand. Low-skill uneducated labor is in high supply and low demand in today's technology driven world. This means the wage will be lower. High skill educated workers will earn higher pay because they are in higher demand, but there are fewer. If you artificially inflate the wages of low skill labor, several things will happen. First, the prices of everything will go up, so the higher wages will not result in greater purchasing power (so you accomplish nothing). Here's a chart showing the real value of minimum wages since 1955:

http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0774473.html

You'll notice that the minimum wage was worth the most in 1968 at $1.60. Next, with artificially higher wages, American businesses will not be able to compete with foreign firms. They'll have to relocate or charge substantially higher prices driving consumers to foreign competitors. One choice will cost American jobs (and you'll cry foul over American companies leaving the country -- but you caused it!) and the other will cause the business to go bankrupt (as with Chrysler and GM). Finally, if you artificially inflate low-skill wages, more people will be content with low skill jobs. There will be fewer people striving to be doctors, business owners, etc. Why spend all that time in school and college when you can just drop out and start earning a "living wage" at 16? I mean, if you wanted to be a doctor, you'd have to finish high school, college, med school and residency. You wouldn't start earning until about 30. That's a difference of 14 years earning potential! Problem is, your solution would kill the jobs in this country. So the wage would be high, but there won't be a job to have. The rust belt proves my point. Truth is, your solution would do more harm to those you profess to want to help. Now, have fun attacking me for not caring, having no sense of justice, La, La, La.

Hey what is wrong with 12 dollar drive through hamburgers? It would make it ok for the unwed mother who had children out of wedlock to make a"living wage". Maybe if I pay 4x's what the the market determines what a fair price is I can sleep well at night, knowing I am helping to support people who I do not know and did not impregnate. And that will show those evil capitalists that they should not make more then the mother who got knocked up because their degrees are worthless vs. the burger flippers degree in baby making.

Notice the trend in making the low wage woman the villain.

If competition is the question the business can operate with lower CEO compensation and no dividends to shareholders. Owner operated businesses would be exempt form this law.

If the Hardees or Dollar store go out of business it creates opportunity for owner operated restaurants and store fronts.

You fail to answer the basic question why do you want your tax dollars going as profit to these low wage industries as a supplement to their wage structure?

Nobody, How do you know you won't be next in the ever broading wage suppression of Wall Street and be forced to supplement your family's survival with food stamps?

Nobody, we have tried to explain the law of supply and demand to Liberalproverbs18:2 for years. To understand it requires a modicum of logic. Therefore he cannot understand it.

The dolt will never understand that a good or service is worth a finite amount of value. You cannot artificially inflate this vale without inflating the values of all other goods and services.

This is getting to the point of explaining inflation and deflation to him. As he cannot even understand supply and demand, it is hopeless.

My only question was whether he is really this stupid or is being deliberately obtuse. I think it is a combination of both.

I do not care who asked for the earmarks or if they have reformed from playing the political bribery game that is earmarks or not. If the constitution does n ot empower the federal government to fund something, it should not be allowed to fund it. If it does, then the funding should be debated at lenght in order for the citizens of this country to observe the process and have time to contact their legislators with their opinions.

Anonymous said...

Why don't you call earmarks what they really are?

Very expensive bribes for votes.

Only in government circles can people get away, scot free, with this ordinarily illegal activity.

Harry Reid pulled the bill. Does that mean we won't get a multi million dollar building to be named after John Murtha? How can we POSSIBLY get along without that? The final pork tribute to the biggest porker in recent congressional history.

And we are apparently not going to get a Ted Kennedy memorial either....but maybe we could name a bridge after him?

"My only question was whether he is really this stupid or is being deliberately obtuse. I think it is a combination of both."

I think he allows his ideology to prevent him from understanding the truth. He FEELS something should be a certain way, and even when someone logically shows him how his actions would wind up having the opposite effect he desires (artificially raising wages leading to fewer jobs and higher prices which would hurt the working class) he ignores it and, as you say, continues his la,la,la chant. The way he FEELS something should be matters more than what actually is or will be.

The wages are artificially being lowed by Capitalist friendly laws and subsides like food stamps.

We would have social unrest if the food stamps stopped.

Liberal socialists will support a pedphile organization like ACORN and illegal aliens who take jobs from Watauga County residents, but they won't lift a finger to get off the government dole. Guy, your use of the word "dolt" when referring to Pedophile POV is spot on and magical.

As for Richard Burr. He is a liar of the highest order. After tricking Blowing Rock residents over the land trade, he then schemed with Kaye Hagen to put another 50,000 acres off limits to sportsmen and women. I wouldn't trust a word that RINO of a liberal said. I would rather have an enemy in front of me than a friend stabbing me in the back. The Richard Burrs of the nation are RINOs who will sell you out in a second for personal gain. No representing the people, only what will get them re-elected.

Could you do a budget for the woman that bakes biscuits at Hardee's making $16,000 per year?

Where is she not being a responsible citizens coming in at 4:30AM working full time at Hardee's and still caring for her children and alining parent?

Why should your tax dollars keep her and her kids from starving when Hardee's should be paying her a wage she can live on?

Lots of Republicans hang out at Hardee's ask the employees about their life.

World English Dictionary
oligarchy (ˈɒlɪˌɡɑːkɪ)

1. government by a small group of people
2. a state or organization so governed
3. a small body of individuals ruling such a state
4. chiefly ( US ) a small clique of private citizens who exert a strong influence on government
