Occupy Whatever...Another Point Of VIew

While I respect everyone's right to protest - even to whine that society should provide for all their wants and needs - I hope that everyone will respect my right to not want to destroy a system that has worked better than any other political system in the history of the world. I'm sorry that things aren't great for everyone and I don't blame you for complaining about it. But, so far I haven't seen any suggestions for change other than that the government should somehow provide more things for you; corporations should not make profits and your student loans should be forgiven. And, while you are protesting the inequities of the world, you have one political party trying to take over your movement and turn it into a mandate for Obama!

Wise up!

Shame it won't fit on a bumper sticker.

I'd plaster them all over Boone.

With the new laws in Alabama, the illegals are fleeing the state. They tell us that crops are unharvested. I wonder how many of the young people would go pick crops like their grandparents did?

I guess the "HOPE" thing is pretty much dead for these youngsters. Way to go Obama.

Blogger, sometimes I think people have forgotten work is what you make it. There is no better way to think about things or get your mind right than hoeing a garden or splitting wood with a maul.

Some people call this
Zen, but everyone that does hard manual labor knows about it.

If the crops do not get picked, then food prices go up. If people get paid a wage that is fair for picking the crops so they do get picked instead of exploiting an illegal alien criminal, food prices may go up. Wither way the free market works.

Just for you information, a friend from Texas has just told me of a memo sent around the Border Patrol that prohibits them from going after illegal aliens anywhere but in the act of crossing the border. If they make it 100 miles or so inside the border, they are safe from the Feds. It is up to the states to enforce immigration law. The Obama Administration's Department of Homeland Security has capitulated.

This sit-in conflicts me. Protesting against Wall Street is harmless and might even put the fear of God into those who created our mess. In other words for me, it is a legitimate target. I will become worried though when the radical left points the protesters energy at Washington. Even the president is now admitting that Washington can’t create jobs, it can only create the climate for the private sector to create jobs. Anyone watching should be aware that when his ideology made him believe government creates jobs, he nearly destroyed the country.

Unfortunately, this great unwashed out there may not have been paying attention and may let themselves be targeted toward Washington. Some of their union-made signs already hint at that.

It doesn't conflict me at all. I think it's great. It reminds me of how fortunate we are that anyone can protest whatever they want to even when they aren't quite sure what it is they are protesting. I love living in a country where people can assemble and shout out their grievances against, well...whatever. Inequality of results I guess!

"Occupy Boone" ...who attracted about 15 people to their rally last Saturday....has a Facebook page. First they organized, then they got a facebook page, and then they asked people to let them know what they should complain about.

Now that's a new kind of protest!

Dems are trying to channel the 'movement' into a pro dem political movement. Of course the protest against Wall Street is largely about people like Larry Summers and Tax Cheat Timothy Geithner - wall streeters to the max - being the first people Obama called to come into his administration. Unions are jumping on board for their own purposes as well and probably it wont be long before we see some corporate sponsorship railing against their corporate competitors!

Does anyone know where these kids came from? Even though I try to keep up, I had no clue they were there. Here in Boone, their point of view has only appeared with the still developmentally delayed college professors and some of the lost-in-time 60's protestors.

If you were one of the 60's protesters you knew that happened because of the huge influx of late adolescents sired by returning WWII veterans who were catching up for their lost years. Adolescence creates true believers. Those kids knew they wanted the war stopped, but they also were infiltrated by communists and other left-wing radicals and were used to promote other dangerous causes.

The weird thing for me who spent a lot of time with those kids, is that this new group sounds exactly like they are channeling the 60's crowd. They even look like them. So does anyone know what rock they climbed out from under all of a sudden out of nowhere? Are they extra-terrestrials maybe?

NewGuy, the reason I used the word conflicted is that like you, I see this as a great American freedom.

However, having participated in a number of these back in the 60's, I saw the radical left co-op them for their own nefarious purposes.

For me, the bad side of this is if the left takes over these obviously very naive people, they will convince them that Washington is the villain and the solutions are a strong central government and perhaps even a dictator.

NewGuy said...

No...just a couple of college kids looking to change the world...a couple of college professors looking to validate themselves and a few aging hippies who miss the good ole days! Add to the mix the usual gang of nuts that are always picketing something ...like the IMF, or the Federal Reserve or whatever they blame their lack of succedss on.

Then, to the mix, toss in the special interests and political opportunists who see their chance to influence the protestors in a direction favorable to their cause.

The WOW! video, to me, proves these people can be convinced to do anything. Anything but take responsibility for their own life.

A different take on the OWS protest.
In support of the OWS protests

In what is probably an indication of the dedication and commitment of today's radicals, the individual who chained himself in front of the student union with a sign that he wouldn't move, eat or drink until his demands were met, has quit.

Apparently he meant until his demands were met, or until a day and a half had passed, whichever came first.

Watch out now, or they will get their Iphones and start a chant in your direction.
