Statement from Congresswoman Virginia Foxx:

My heart breaks for the family and friends of Watauga County Sheriff’s Deputy William Ronald Mast, Jr., who gave his life in the line of duty early this morning...I know the thoughts and prayers of thousands are with his wife, Paige, their unborn child, his parents, and the entire Watauga County Sheriff’s Office today. May they be comforted and find peace in the midst of this tragedy.

Statement from Watauga County Commission Board Chairman, Nathan Miller:

Today Watauga County lost a hero. Deputy William Mast of the Watauga County Sheriff's Office was killed in action. Throughout the county hearts are heavy and are greiving the loss of a great man. No words can adequately express the grief our community feels to lose such a great person, husband, son, and officer. I know that I speak for all the county commissioners when I say that we are praying for the family of William Mast, especially his loving wife Paige and for the Watauga County Sheriff's Department as they try to come to terms with this senseless loss. Please take a moment out of your busy day and say a prayer for William and Paige and the Sheriff's Department as they will need all help that god can give. RIP Deputy William Mast you will be greatly missed.
