VENT PAGE XLVIII - the 48 STAR EDITION

The flag with the 48 stars- the one that my generation grew up pledging allegiance to, the one our parents fought for in Korea, and WWII and their parents who served under this flag in WWI.. This flag represented America  for 47 years - from July 4, 1912 until Jan3, 1959 when a 49th star, representing Alaska, was added.

What better icon to represent our 48th VENT PAGE and on our Independence Day version at that!

Whenever the number of posts on a vent page make it cumbersome to navigate, a new vent page is started. This is number FORTY-SEVEN  in our series!

VENT PAGES are handy for posting of off-topic posts, rants, raves, rages, etc which might not be appropriate on other threads where adults are having serious discussions. Childish rant? Need to call another poster a name?Just feel like spouting off? Or even if you have something to say and there doesn't seem to be any other logical place to say it....THIS PAGE IS FOR YOU!!

For automotive fans, 1948 is probably best represented by the famous (infamous) Tucker Motor Car....a design well ahead of it's time, a low car with a rear engine, a zero to 50 time of around 10 seconds and, according to legend, too good a car for the existing automobile companies to compete with - and thus, the legend of the Tucker !

Although a car with great promise, litigation, SEC investigations and stock fraud allegations killed the Tucker after only 51 had been produced.

I still have a 48 Star Flag. It flew over the elementary school I attended. I also have a 49 Star Flag flown over the Capital and given to me by my Grandmother. It is proudly displayed in my living room. I have a 50 Star Flag. I am missing the flags between 51 and 57 Star.

RINO Republicans are worse than liberals. Remember when Democrat Debbie Ross kept gun bills bottled up in committee. We were so mad about that. She was seen as a vile enemy of freedom. Then, after a hundred years, gun owners elect a Republican Congress. This Republitard Congress was supposed to restore freedoms and right wrongs.

This week we saw RINOs Apodaca and Stam do the EXACT same thing Debbie Ross did; keep pro-gun bills bottled up in committee. Vote them all out.

As I said a few threads ago - RINOs are far worse than liberal socialists.

I'm sorry to have to report that Bushrod Gentry has passed away after a long battle with health problems.

Bushrod enjoyed this site even though he did not post that much. He said there was not much use to because using logic on a liberal is like explaining color to a man that was blind from birth.

He was a very smart man and a patriot.

I thought John McCain was a "Maverick"? Does anyone else find it strange that this RINO won't say a peep on Fast and Furious? Agent Brian Terry was killed in Senator McCain's home state of Arizona! And McCain is silent on this issue. I was right in not voting for this imbecile coward.

And where is RINO Romney on Fast and Furious? I haven't heard anything from him on what should be done. He hasn't attacked hussein obama over executive privledge either. If Romney can't stand up to hussein obama over Fast and Furious, then how will he stand up for our rights?

RINOs like McCain and Romney have done a number on this country. We had a shot with Bachman, Paul or especially Herman Cain.

“I applaud Congressman [Darrell] Issa and Senator [Chuck] Grassley for their work in exposing the Fast and Furious scandal,” Romney proclaimed to an enthusiastic assemblage of NRA members in a 27-minute speech that curiously only addressed the gun issue for about three of those minutes.Gun Rights Examiner has posted the speech recorded by C-SPAN in the sidebar for this column, and the candidate’s related remarks begin at around 18:40 into the video.

“And of course I applaud NRA leadership for being among the first and most vocal in calling upon Attorney General Holder to resign or get fired,” Romney added.

guy faulkes said...

Thank you for pointing out the typos. I seem to be making a rash of them. If I keep it up, people may think I am a liberal.

By the way, your mistake was not a typo, but the incorrect use of a word after you had attacked another person and my comment had nothing to do with whether I agreed with the content of your post.

USS Rodger Young said...

I haven't heard McCain say anything about Fast and Furious. With this coming to a vote in the House, one would expect the "Maverick" to be pushing the issue in the Senate. The only thing the "Maverick" rants about is taking freedom away from American citizens. The idiot is one reason we don't have 15 round fights in boxing anymore (boxing is a failing sport by the way). He loves a big government, regulatory, approach to everything. In other words, he will take freedom away from those who elect him, but won't fight for freedoms. Kind of like the Watauga County Commissioners. Kind of like the NC State Senate.

RINOs are more to blame for the mess we are in than liberal socialists.

USS Rodger Young said...

Sark,

Pure pandering. Read this: http://politicalcorrection.org/blog/201109010012

This is a link where McCain uses Fast and Furious to call for STRONGER GUN CONTROL LAWS.

I find it strange that the family of slain Border Guard Brian Terry doesn't call upon McCain for answers in the shooting death of their son. Instead they rely on Darrell Issa and Chuck Grassley who hail from other states. Why isn't McCain leading the charge for answers?

Oh, wait, that's right, like a true RINOtard he uses this tradgedy to call for stricter gun control laws in EXACTLY the same manner as liberal Demoturds. Nothing separates McCain from a liberal because he is one.

McCain is a RINO, through and through. No wonder hussein obama won the last election - if crazy liberal McCain is all republitards could come up with, then they deserve to lose.

This is exactly why I have a problem voting for Romney. We have been telling you time and again Sark, that a RINO is no different than a liberal. They are one and the same. Quit putting stock in the McCains, McConnells, Roves, Bushes, etc. They are a bunch of back stabbing idiots concerned only with re-election.

McCain and his push for gun control, which by the way isn't the first time the "maverick" has done this, is reason to write in Ron Paul or Herman McCain in November. Like I said, the liberals are beating us and they are doing a good job at it. Idiots like McCain are the reason why.

So, I arrive at my initial point. Where is the "Maverick" on Fast and Furious? Nothing but more government regulation coming from his well worn pie-hole.

Sarkazein said...

USS R Y- McCain is right, here. It should be harder for Narco-terrorists and Jihadist to get arms from the US. How this is done, I don't know. McCain doesn't say how either. If it means abolishing the ATF E then so be it.
But, McCain was one of the first to call for heads to roll in F&F. McCain is in the front line of the fight against Holder.
The family calls on Issa because he is the head of the investigation.
Reed, isn't going to allow the Senate to do much on this. The House is under R control and is going after the F&F full speed.
Who is doing a better job on going after F&F, McCain or Schummer?
Name some non-Republican Office holders doing more on F&F. Where are those mythical Independents/Third Party'rs on Fast & Furious? Nowhere, it is the Republicans.

USS Rodger Young said...

Sark,

To answer your questions. McCain is doing a better job than Schumer.

To name some non-Republican Office holder doing a better job on Fast and Furious than McCain: the 17 Democrats who voted to hold Holder in contempt. They are the real Mavericks. The simple fact they crossed party lines means they did far more than McCain has done. I know some people in Arizona who say McCain says virtually nothing on the Terry shooting.

You are right about Independents. They say and do nothing about Fast and Furious. Point taken.

And while your at it Sark, where is the Tea Party on Fast and Furious? In fact, where is the Tea Party? Yes, the Republicans are doing more than the mythical Tea Party (does it even exist).

Unlike liberal socialist sheep, you make good, educated, honest, inflective arguements. Please do the same and convince me to vote for RINO Romney. So far I cannot find a reason, but perhaps you can push me over the edge. Every morning at the Wellness Center, I think hard about justifying a decision to vote for Romney. It's a hard choice for a hard core conservative/Independent/Patriotic American.

Sarkazein said...

I pulled this off another forum.

1.) Only in America could politicians talk about the greed of the rich at a $40,000 a plate campaign fund raising event.

2.) Only in America could you have two people who work at the highest
level of government and are responsible for the "integrity" of the tax code, Timothy Geithner, the head of the Treasury Department, and Charles Rangel
who ran the Ways and Means Committee, BOTH turn-out to be big-time tax cheats who want everyone else to pay their "fair share" of taxes EXCEPT THEMSELVES.

3.) Only in America would we make people who want to "legally" become
American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay hundreds and in some cases thousands of dollars for the privilege while we discuss whether or not someone who is already here "illegally" can become a U.S. citizen.

4.) Only in America could the people who believe in balancing the
budget and sticking by the country's constitution be thought of as "EXTREMISTS."

5.) Only in America could you need to present a driver's license to
cash a check or buy alcohol, but in many states---not to vote.

6.) Only in America could the government collect more tax dollars from the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a trillion dollars more than it has per year for total spending of $7 million PER MINUTE, and complain that it doesn't have nearly enough money.

7.) Only in America could the rich people who pay 86% of all income
taxes be accused of not paying their "fair share" by people who are part of the 47% who don't pay any income taxes at all.

Sark, this is why I will have a difficult time voting for a RINO like Romney. McCain and Graham are thinking about voting for the UN Arms treaty? WTF. RINOs like both Bushes, McCain, Romney, Scott Brown and a host of others is why Romney will lose the general election. This reinforces my position on Romney.

If Romney waffles on, say, an assault weapons ban, he will actually be able to pass such a ban with a Republican House and Senate. Then where are we? At least hussein obama will have some resistance (except for RINO mccain) in Congress.

I'm tired of RINOs like Rick Perry, John McCain, both Bushes, Murkowski, Brown, the Watauga County Commissioners and a host of others taking my rights away. These idiots are supposed to be increasing freedom, not diminishing it.

NewGuy said...

The problem never really changes....We don't have the perfect candidate to select from, we have two people, both of whom have their faults.

Obama has probably done more damage to this country than any other president in our history! He bypasses congress, issues order to not enforce laws that are in effect and directs his Justice Department to concentrate on suing states who are trying to enforce the laws he doesn't want enforced. He sued Arizona for having the audacity to have their policeman check on the immigration status of suspected illegals; he has sued at least two states to stop them from enforcing voter ID laws - even though the SCOTUS has stamped such laws as constitutional; he won't enforce voter intimidation laws if the intimidators are Black; He has annointed "czars" to create "rules" that were never passed as congressional laws; he has made "recess appointments" when the Senate was NOT in recess and has probably done more to widen the partisan divide than anyone thought possible.

If you don't elect Romney, Obama will be back and will, in all liklihood, have the opportunity to appoint at least one new Supreme Court Justice.....another Sotomeyer would be a good bet! Maybe 2 - possibly 3! And he will veto any changes to his mandatory Obamacare fiasco!

And, if he can find a way around a hopefully Republican Senate, you can be sure he will limit your second amendment rights! Probably by imposing a zillion dollar tax on weapons or ammo - part of the Affordable Health Care act probably!

Romney, on the other hand, has said he will abolish Obamacare. I feel he will be supportive of second amendment rights (and yes, Guy, I am aware of the Massachusetts assault weapons issue).

I feel that Romney has a much better idea of what is wrong with this economy than Obama does - and will get the pipeline started; reduce some of the restrictions on burning coal (which is going to cause our electrical bills to double if something isn't done to fix this current EPA mess!) and I feel confidant that any Romney appointments to the S. Court will be more conservative than what Obama is going to do.

Romney may not be perfect, but he is our only chance for now....and four years from now may be too late!

Sarkazein said...

At least then Governor Romney didn't say- "OK, you can have assault weapons, but they cannot be loaded." as did then Governor Reagan (RINO) I guess.

USS Rodger Young said...

Blogger,

I just can't let this rest. You advocated for zoning laws. Zoning laws are communist in nature. It is disappointing to see that you wish the government to tell you that you can't cut a tree down in your back yard or what material you must use to roof your house. Many people died in this country over the past 200 years for a concept called freedom. To give that freedom away to a pesky bureaucrat is mind boggling. Zoning officers will always gain in authority and importance, not the other way around. You let the lion in the back door - he's here to stay.

Dan Soucek - you are still a hero. Good job on your anti-zoning bill.

USS Rodger Young said...

Blogger, did I say how disappointed I am in you? Terrible decision to support zoning laws. Simply terrible. You reminded me, with your posts, of a Marxist.

USS Rodger Young said...

Any liberals out there want to take a shot at the title? What a bunch of idiots.

NewGuy said...

Mark me down on your list alongside Blogger. Sorry that we all can't agree on everything and every issue, but that's the way it is sometimes.

Basic zoning - that is preventing industrial operations in single family neighborhoods is not a bad thing. The degree of restrictions that may be placed on properties (ie, tree cutting, house colors, etc) are a separate issue. Zoning itself doesn't require such severe restrictions, nor does a governing body actually need zoning in order to impose them.

I don't have a dog in the fight, but I agree with blogger that people shouldn't have to have their property devalued by a neighbor who decides to convert his property into an asphalt plant and to hell with the neighbors who don't want the smell, etc in their homes. Zoning provides a location for asphalt plants to locate - as well as other types of businesses.

Now, this may not be acceptable to some conservatives (or some liberals for that matter), but it is the way I (and apparently Blogger) feel on this issue. If that makes us "bad people" in your eyes, then so be it.

guy faulkes said...

Not bad, New Guy, but certainly misguided.

My only problem with Blogger's stance was that he called those that disagreed with him bad. He was supporting his self interest just as those that oppose zoning do. Neither party is bad. They just do not agree.

However, not being able to vote for those that make the laws that effect you or to run for office is bad.

NewGuy said...

"However, not being able to vote for those that make the laws that effect you or to run for office is bad. "

Guy, I agree with you here 100%! And I would also agree if you wanted to argue that Boone is way too restrictive in their application....but that doesn't mean that reasonable zoning isn't workable.

You also make a good point when you note that everyone has their own interests at heart here!

What frustrates me about this, and many other issues, is that we conservatives can fragment ourselves into so many groups and end up fighting amongst ourselves so much that people like Obama get elected to run our country!

NewGuy said...

I spoke too soon, Sark. Apparently the perps were black. I got fooled because I didn't hear Obama saying that they could have been his sons, or didn't hear the media screaming for Williams (the shooter) to be arrested, police chief fired, etc.

And maybe I was giving the Justice Department too much credit for fast action. We may yet see them turn this into a civil rights case.

guy faulkes said...

The man (Williams)did several things correctly. He gained a tactical advantage by starting his action while the perpetrators were distracted by another victim. He fired on the move, reducing the chance he could be shot or hit with the bat. He continued to fire as long as the threat existed. The do bad appeared to still be armed as he went through the door and there were still two of them.

I would agree that he should have used a larger caliber with which to defend himself, but it is hard to argue with his successful self defensive action.

Florida's stand your ground law should prevent any civil action unless the potential victims decide to sue the perpetrators.

NewGuy said...

Not to criticize him, but he needs to work on his aim some. Although I am sure that, given the stress of the situation, he did better than many could have done!

Sarkazein said...

He did fire quite a few warning shots. It is, however, very hard to hit a moving target while you are moving too.

USS Rodger Young said...

Blogger,

I cannot find your comments. New Guy, you and Blogger are wrong on this. You said: "that is preventing industrial operations in single family neighborhoods is not a bad thing"

It is a bad thing New Guy. You handle the problem instead of hiding behind the wolf in sheep's clothing that only wants one thing - MORE POWER. Let it in, and it will be far worse than a cement plant in your neighborhood. Again, you and other interested parties handle the cement plant. Too much noise, talk to them. Pollution - sue them. Cement plants won't locate to locations where people give them problems. Exercise some personal responsibility and don't hide behind the wolf! A cement plant is no different than you - they seek the path of least resistance. Perhaps some people WANT a cement plant beside them. Property values in business districts are usually higher than in residental areas.

So you are telling me you would rather have the nanny state in your PERSONAL BUSINESS rather than free enterprise? You and blogger are further along than I originally thought.

You're right about conservatives fragmenting. Hussein Obama may well go back into office because conservatives are being backed into a corner yet again by the "lesser of two evils" syndrome.
