Make no mistake - the relocation of the Boone 2 polling place to Legends has become a hugely partisan issue. Not simply because of the location of the polls, but rather because of the all out attack that the local Democrat party has engaged in against the Watauga County Board of Election. Democrats have attacked each and every decision that the Republican dominated BOE has made. Perhaps it is out of desperation? Perhaps it's part of their "Blueprint North Carolina" plan to attack Republicans on every level and at every opportunity in order to sway public opinion. Certainly Dems are not happy that North Carolina has turned them out of every major office. Watauga County in particular is represented almost entirely by Republicans at every level other than within the Town of Boone itself.
So - why has ASU weighed in on what is entirely a partisan dispute? Should a taxpayer funded organization use it's resources to lobby on a partisan issue? Should ASU interject itself into partisan disputes?
We were not surprised when David Robertson, Director of Student Programs for ASU showed up at a recent BOE meeting in the company of a large group of local Dems. In an obviously pre-arranged tactic - Kathleen Campbell, Democrat member of the BOE in total disregard for the Rules of Order, called for comments from the audience: asked for a "show of hands" from the audience (made up of the partisan Dems who had packed the meeting) of those who agreed with her positions and called upon Dave Robertson to share his views AS ASU DIRECTOR OF STUDENT AFFAIRS. Robertson - as expected - supported the Democrat position.
But who is Dave Robertson? Well, to start with - he is in fact the Director of Student Programs at ASU and is not above using his official position to advance his Democrat agenda. He is the same Dave Robertson that ran, as a Democrat, for County Commission a few years back. He is the same Dave Robertson who was
there when a decision was made to prevent the ASU College Republicans from having a table at campus events! He is the same Dave Robertson that has preached his anti-Republican rhetoric from his position at ASU and on Social Media. Some of his comments on Facebook tell the readers all they need to know about Dave Robertson:

But that isn't even nearly the worst. In Elizabeth City (and soon to be in a college town near you), since the GOP has taken over every local Board of Elections, they are systematically declaring that students are not residents, and cannot vote, in the towns where they go to school. Even though this is blatantly in direct conflict with a decision by the Supreme Court.
The NC GOP is so afraid of fair elections, they have gerrymandered the districts, passed the voter suppression law, but that was not enough....sheesh. (Robertson)
When he is representing ASU, his politics should be set aside!
