We Speak English Here
I was reminded of my son when he was just 7 years old. We had been in the Peace Corps in Honduras for two years. Five to seven years old is a perfect time to learn a language. My son spoke it like a native Even chiding me about my Spanish.
We were so proud of him and of course when we returned to the States we wanted to show him off to our friends. One day at a gathering, we turned to our son and said "Speak Spanish for the people Mike."
Drawing himself up to his full little height, he indignantly declared: "This is America! We speak English here!"
