State of the Union

Guy Faulkes posted: "My grandson loves to have books read to him. One of his favorite books is largely composed of the line "The wheels of the bus go round, round, round; all through the town." In my opinion, in the state of the union speech, Mr. Obama is going to change the words to "the wheels of the bus go screech, screech, screech," as he tries to turn his bus sharply to the right (at least figuratively) in order to try to stay viable politically by appearing to move to the middle. I do not think he will really move to the right, but he is going to try to appear to do so.

Any opinions?

I'll have my laptop in my lap as I watch the speech. I invite everyone to comment as it's happening...if there is anything noteworthy. In the mean time, which is also a groovy time, let's follow Guy's lead and make a few predictions.

I predict Obama will say he didn't realize how bad Bush had messed things up even though he campaigned saying it was the worst economy in the history of the universe. He won't mention Massachusetts. He won't say as Clinton did, "The era of big government is over". Terrorism will get little if any attention. He will say "I" a bunch. The DOW will tank on Thursday.

I and Guy are on record. I'll probably come up with more and comment accordingly.

Chime in.

I believe this will be the ME of the Union by Obama. I have a bet at home that Obama will talk about himself more than he uses the word America.

Sarkazein said...

I predict he will look from left to right, back and forth continuously like at a tennis match, and trail off on the last words of his sentences.
I also predict Nancy Pelosi will blurt out "You lie!" at some point during the address.
I also predict that Biden will be seen checking out Obama's butt during the address, looking for a spot he hasn't already kissed.

Thank PROFIT for cable reruns of Andy Griffith, Cops, and old movies. I may have to rely on HD, Blogger, and Rush for an analysis. To watch Obamas entire State of the Union reading, I would have to have my eyelids held open and be tied down to my seat like A Clock Work Orange.

Any suggestions where to watch the speech online? I don't have cable or satellite TV.

I found a stream on Ustream.tv that has great sound, but the commentators have their lips firmly glued to Obama's behind. I also question whether they will air the Republican response, as they likely follow Liberal POV's rules for responsible journalism.

Any suggestions?

I really missed on my prediction. Obama chose to sacrifice the Democrat party to socialism rather than turn right. He will get a small bump and then his popularity will really plummet. He still refuses to listen to the will of the people although he did make a small concession to energy production. However, the health care scam, the Cap and Trade scam that will cause even more massive unemployment, and his second stimulus is going to insure a Republican take over of at least one house and possibly both. This may or may not be good. It depends if these Republicans are conservative. We might have a split party as the Democrats do now.

Honest Debate said...

There was much to dislike but the blame game thing really gets under my craw. Griping about "paying" for two Bush tax cuts is such a lie. He attacks wall street, corporations and the wealthy (in other words, the engine of the economy), he attacks the GOP and the Supreme Court and he's lying about it all. He's the most divisive President in history.

I wish Guy Faulkes had been right. It's really remarkable that Obama's arrogance trumps everything.

I think it's time to throw protocol out the window. Obama should be labeled by Congress and the Supreme Court as a liar. The "you lie" drum should be beaten like a red-headed step-child.

guy faulkes said...

One has to wonder if Mr. Obama's antics will influence future decisions by the Supreme Court. I do not think it will change the outcome of the rulings on the cases, but the discussions may get interesting with the liberal members trying harder to go revisionist and the conservative members telling them to stick in in their ear.

Is it not interesting that to call Obama a liar and not be black makes you a racist, but when Bush was called names by blacks, it was not either racist or racial.

HD, do you not think calling Obama a liar would cause religious controversy with those that worship the man child Messiah? This is a different problem than the racial hypocrisy.

You asked: "HD, do you not think calling Obama a liar would cause religious controversy with those that worship the man child Messiah?"

Yes I do, they would go nuts, spew hate, defend the lies and make up new ones. They do all that already. The truth hurts and the truth is Obama is a liar.

Honest Debate said...

Simon J.,

I think Alito will not fare as bad as Joe Wilson for a few reasons. Supreme Court justices get a little more respect than freshman congressmen...I think. He was silent and did not interrupt. If not for the camera we wouldn't know about it. When Joe Wilson erupted he was corret, Obama did lie. The Dems got some mileage but could not refute the fact that Wilson was right. This lie was even more obvious.

CAIRO (AP) - Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden has called in a new audiotape for the world to boycott American goods and the U.S. dollar, blaming the United States and other industrialized countries for global warming.
In the tape, aired in part on Al-Jazeera television Friday, bin Laden warns of the dangers of climate change and says that the way to stop it is to bring "the wheels of the American economy" to a halt.
He says the world should "stop consuming American products" and "refrain from using the dollar," according to a transcript on Al-Jazeera's Web site.

NO POV, $200.00 is not 20% of $500.00. In any case, the percentage one pays with this type of policy is calculated from the cost of the care, not the cost of the premium. You must get your health care from the emergency room and not pay anything for it to not know this.

You're a winner I to have been blessed with good health but that doesn't mean my family doesn't need good health insurance. My insurance is not provided by the state government though it will be in a few years by Medicare.
Health Care is a basic human right as we have witnessed in Haiti. The world believed the people of Haiti should receive medical treatment despite the fact they had no money. Any of you that happen onto a sick or injured person will not as yourself if that person can afford to be treated. Lets get that into the open and figure out how to do preventive medicine and how we pay for any Americans need for medical treatment.
No, despite all the words you spread across your computer screen you don't want a system that would let Americans die in the hospital parking lot due to lack of funds. That's would be Universal Health Care. We actually have a form of it now but millions fall through the cracks and we have ineffective ways of paying for it. Your insurance premiums are higher, medicare takes a hit, hospital fees are higher to cover those without health care insurance.

Liberal POV said...

Guy

You to must be blessed with good health as you don't know the deal is stacked in favor of the insurance industry.

If you have an insurance policy that's 20% co pay and the hosipital bill is $1000.00 you pay $200.00 and the insurance company pays the hospital $500(or a reduced amount depending on the deal they have) not the $800.00 which is the 20% amount.

Why are you so insulting as to suggest those that want reform must be getting health care for free or don't works as you say you do?
Is your wife getting tax payer funded health care as Mike D and Blogger?

guy faulkes said...

POV, I have had hospital bills nearing $200,000.00. My private insurance paid them. I know what I am talking about from personal experience. As usual, you do not have a clue.

My wife's insurance is not paid for by taxpayers. It is part of the package she gets as compensation for the work she does. As she earns it by working as do MikeD and Blogger, what is the difference with any of their insurance? Is it because you are against work and the benefits thereof? Not everyone goes to the emergency room for free health care as it seems you do.

Everyone wants to improve health care. Most want to lower the costs by tort reform, being able to purchase insurance across state lines, and have medical savings accounts. They do not want socialized medicine. Why do you think if you are against socialized medicine, you are against the improvement of health care, when in fact opposition to government run health care is saving it? Brown's victory proves more people agree with me than do you.

Liberal POV said...

guy faulkes said...

POV, socialized medicine is government controll of all medicine. It results in rationing of health care, what Ms. Palin so aptly named death panels, and control of every part of people's lives.

The bills being debated by the Democrats (they will not give the Republicans a seat at the table) have little to do with improving health care. They are about the control of people's lives and the redistribution of wealth.

Medicare has nothing to do with the current bills except they will hasten the bankruptcy of Medicare. It is a very strange thing that the Democrats plan to fund health car reform (socializing insurance and how health care is obtained, not health care itself) by cutting out waste in Medicare. Why do they not cut out the waste anyway, if waste exists?

Medicare is a form of socialized medicine, but it is not the only form of medicine that is available as will be the case under the new bills. Therefore, it is tolerable because it can be managed to go to those that need it and have no other recourse. Also, most people that I know that use Medicare also have other insurance. The same logic can be said of your other examples. For instance health care for veterans is part of the compensation package they receive for their service. It is not something "given" them as a right.

Your example of Congressional health care is especially humorous as they will not be covered under the new bill. They still have their own care.

Liberal POV said...

Guy

"Your example of Congressional health care is especially humorous as they will not be covered under the new bill. They still have their own care."

Why should they? Why not have them live with the bill or lack of biil they pass?
Why should law makers have a different health care program then what they think the American people should have?
