HD " How can you tell if Obama is lying? His lips are moving."

Dick Morris

"So the $700 billion pushed the deficit — officially — up to $1.3 trillion."

As Dick Morris points out Obama lumps the TARP money onto the deficit to beat Bush over the head. At the same time he gives TARP credit for saving the economy. Which is it?

" Which is it"

It's that we did and do face an economic crisis and we have to work to gather.

Petty Politics, silly issues, demonization needs to stop.

Obama just gave the GOP a dose of their own medicine.

Greed and protection of the status quo drives the Republican Party whether insurance, tobacco, banking, oil, coal or defence contractors.

Bush passed TARP. Bush was a proponent of big government that gave us Obama with his message of HOPE and CHANGE. Obama never said what we were to hope for or what the change would be. After a year of his policies the liberal, progressive movement that became the Democrat Party is pretty much destroyed and is fighting desperately for it's life. While this might have been something to hope for, the destruction of the economy and the security of the country is a lot to pay for the change.

I can't argue with Guy's assertion that Bush grew government but the TARP thing is different. As Mr. Morris points out, 500 billion has been paid back yet Obama still uses the entire 700 billion for his numbers. Obama was president when the second installment was issued and as Senator he voted for the first installment. I think it's very likely that TARP did save the economy from the brink of disaster. If so, Obama should take some blame for the deficit along with credit for TARP's apparent success.

Point taken that should have been two separate issues and post.

It’s an Obama world. Up is down. Square is round. Trucks are jokes. And, losing 20,000 jobs actually brings down the unemployment rate.

The US lost another 20,000 jobs in January but the unemployment rate dropped to 9.7%. The new counting methods saved or created 541,000 jobs.
The AP reported:

The unemployment rate dropped unexpectedly in January to 9.7 percent from 10 percent while employers shed 20,000 jobs, the government said Friday.

The rate dropped because a survey of households found the number of employed Americans rose by 541,000, the Labor Department said. The job losses are calculated from a separate survey of employers.

The report also included an annual revision to the estimates of total payrolls, which showed there were 930,000 fewer jobs last March than previously estimated. The department also revised down its estimates for April through October of last year, adding another 433,000 job losses.

The November figure was revised higher, however, to show a gain of 64,000 jobs.

All told, the Great Recession has eliminated 8.4 million jobs, the department said. That’s the most of any recession since World War II as a proportion of total payrolls.

Wern't you and other Republicans hoping for failure?

Didn't all of this start on Republicans watch with deregulation and the Greed culture?

No it started with Woodrow Wilson and was greatly enhanced by FDR.
