VENT PAGE XXXIX - The Jack Benny Edition

Vent Page XXXIX.. Hard to believe, huh? .And who was it that was forever "39"? This is the Jack Benny edition, in honor of the great comedian - the perpetually 39 year old Benjamin Kubelsky - Born February 14, 1894 and died 80 years later at the age of 39!

Whenever the number of posts on a vent page make it cumbersome to navigate, a new vent page is started. This is number THIRTY NINE in our series!

VENT PAGES are handy for posting of off-topic posts, rants, raves, rages, etc which might not be appropriate on other threads where adults are having serious discussions. Childish rant? Need to call another poster a name?Just feel like spouting off? Or even if you have something to say and there doesn't seem to be any other logical place to say it....THIS PAGE IS FOR YOU!!

'39 is also the year that one of my favorite cars ever was produced by the Ford Motor Company. While the 40 Ford was the Bootleggers favorite (and Nascar's too),  (tips hat to Junior Johnson)....it was, for some reason, the 39 that always called to me.
This example sold at auction in 2008  for over $60,000.00!

You like "off-topic"? Well here you go:

Last night, I was trying to figure out why the practice of purchasing "carbon offsets" bothers me so much, and suddenly it hit me. They are logically identical to the "Indulgences" sold by the Catholic Church, especially just before the Protestant Reformation began. In fact, the idea that one could purchase absolution for their sins before even committing them was such an abhorrent concept that it became one of, if not the primary cause for Martin Luther's actions which began the Protestant Reformation! Carbon offsets are the same thing. They serve exactly the same purpose, but for a new religious movement. It was a terrible idea in the late 15th century, and it's a terrible idea now.

And for those who do not know what carbon offsets are, here is my take on them:

The idea is that by paying a surcharge for your carbon emissions, the money can be used to fund renewable energy initiatives elsewhere, somehow offsetting your carbon emissions, but in reality, the money dumps through a network of bureaucracy, the structure of the "Global Climate Change" religious movement, and much of the money gets sucked up along the way, especially for furthering political self-promotion of the religion. In the end, all you have really purchased is absolution for the sin of creating carbon dioxide (which we do with every breath, by the way), and the church gets your money. Just like what happened with Indulgences.

Anonymous: Jesus spent his entire ministry casting out unclean spirits from people, and healing them. When he left, he told his disciples that was what they were to do–cast out unclean spirits, heal the sick. They did. Thus the only way one can know he or she is a disciple of Jesus is if they cast out unclean spirits and heal the sick. I do not know a single liberal, including liberal ministers who can demonstrate the abilities of a disciple. Anonymous, deal with that.

I was aghast at the March 2012 editon of Field and Stream. On page 30, a liberal named Bob Marshall published an article on how Congress is set to harm the environment. He specifically named freshman Republicans in the House of Representatives as the problem. As most of us know, these freshman representatives were Tea Parties who wish to limit government. Field and Stream wants MORE government regulations! Amazing that a once reliable magazine sounds like something coming from Earth First, Sierra Club, or Green Peace.

I began to notice a couple of years ago the subtle shift in some hunting/fishing magazines towards radical environmentalism. Articles against drilling in ANWR or the lower 48 began to creep in slowly at first. Now they are out in the open. Aside from cancelling further Field and Stream renewals, I wonder how far to the left many in this country really are? Most of these hunting magazines advertise ATVs, large pick-up trucks and a whole host of other products with the potential to harm the environment. Why not bar those advertisements?

I am wondering if Field and Stream has switched ownership. Sort of like Smith and Wesson a few years back when it was bought out by a British firm who tried to cut a deal with Bill Clinton on gun control.

They are coming at you from everywhere folks. Radicals are committed, smart, and ready to destroy YOUR lifestyle and beliefs. Will you ensure that doesn't occur in November 2012?

If Santorum can't beat Hussein Obama easily, then on one can. If Sarah Palin ran against Hussein O. she should be able to beat him easily. The fact the race might be close no matter who is running against the incumbant idiot should be what alarms us. 49% of America relies on Hussein Obama to not pay taxes. That is very telling.

I meant to say "then no one can".

Remember how Obama was going to have the world loving America again?

What happened to Operation Fast and Furious? It seems to be fading quick. Same with Solyndra. Not a peep. Where is John Boehner by the way? He is the Speaker, and he never speaks. What a bunch of losers.

Any dumb liberal socialist sheep out there want to take a thrashing on this site? If so, step right up and good ole Johnny will be happy to oblige.

I guess Obama will be closing down GITMO right after the new $750,000 soccer field for the terrorists is finished. Wish I had gotten that $750K contract. I could have built it for under $100K... exploding soccer ball included. He must have future plans for GITMO.

Sheriff Joe came out with his investigation of Obama's birth certificate and Selective Service card. Dan Rather must have helped Obama with these poor forgeries. The Sheriff has probable-cause the documents are forgeries.
CAN YOU IMAGINE if this had been about a sitting Republican President. Joe would be a hero and NBC, CBS, ABC would be running 24 hour live coverage from the front and back of the White House waiting for the US Marshals to evict the Obama's from the White House.

I stopped at a local convenience store yesterday afternoon. I was third in line at the cashier. The person in front of me was a very attractive white woman in a halter top and shorts. Very attractive. So I didn't mind the wait. She had bags of chips and a bag of some kind of candy and a 6 back of beer to purchase. She whipped out her Lone Star Card (food stamps) to pay, but the clerk would not accept the card for the beer. She dug in her purse and found a dollar in change only. She turned to me and asked- "What are you buying?". "Gasoline"- I said. She thought for a moment and she said- " If you will get $6 worth of food, I will pay for the $6 worth of food on my Lone Star card and you can give me the $6 in cash so I can buy this beer."

six dollars for a six pack? It's half that here. I'm in West Jefferson and I pay that for a twelve pack!

I just checked my grocery ads and they have Natural Lite on sale for $11.99 for a 24 pack.

Sarkazein said...

Anonymouses- Believe me, this gal looked like she only drinks the expensive beer. $6 was probably not what she was used to. I'm guessing more.

Mike D. said...

Sark,

Did you provide her with a counter-offer? ;-)

NewGuy said...

Of course she drinks expensive beer! Nothing is too good for you when the government is willing to pay for it.

Sarkazein said...

The point to my convenience store experience is that she had no problem with asking a total stranger to participate in welfare fraud with her. It was kinda matter-of-fact. We all have our anecdotal welfare stories. But this person was unashamed. We are paying billions in food stamp costs. The liberals defend it. In real life, the system is being ripped-off at will as a way of life and turning people into thieves. The food she was buying was not vegetables, rice and milk, it was snack food. When you think about it, there is nothing we can do about it. After I just gave her the $6, opened the door for her and carried the bags to her car, I wondered how she could think she is entitled to use the food stamps for non-essential food.

Mike D. said...

Yes, but you had an opportunity to demonstrate the free-market to her in its purest form. Lead by example! You say she was very attractive! A counter offer would have shown her the benefits of capitalism. :-)

Anonymous said...

And it is likely that you are, or soon will be, paying for her birth control as well!
Food stamp fraud is a big business. Not just the misuse of the benefit in purchasing non qualifying items, but the sale and trading of food stamps, or products purchased with the debit cards now in use.

Google "Baby Formula Welfare Fraud" ...and then look at your local Craigs list for the baby formula for sale ads! How do you suppose SO many people ended up with SO much baby formula more than they needed?

Sarkazein said...

One of the reasons for pointing out her attractiveness, race, and lack of shyness, (in total) is either she appears to be capable of paying her own way or Obama's economy has opened up a whole 'nother group of people to welfare. He is after-all the Food-stamp President.

Geez,

Where's your sense of humor? Regardless of how much emotion you put into some blog post, that woman will still be defrauding the system tomorrow morning, but you have a choice if you want to start a new day with a light heart or an angry grudge. Sure, try to fix the system, but don't turn yourself into a grumpy, angry old man in the process!

Or are you just angry at yourself for not thinking of offering her the deal I suggested? :-P

Sarkazein said...

MikeD- I don't think of food stamp recipients as being prostitutes if that is what you are writing. If she had been, she would have had enough money to buy my gasoline and her beer+. In some cases I think prostitution is more honorable than welfare fraud. If you want to see my sense of humor, you'll just have to look deeper.
