Vent Page LXVII - Stings and Things....

My all Time favorite Corvettes are the "Mid Year" 'Vettes...the 63 to 67 Sting Rays. and the 67 roadster is my favorite of the bunch!

So....since Sting Rays have barbs....and so do Vent Pages (I know, I know, *groan*) I have chosen this example to pictorially represent Vent Page 67!

Cool guys drive classic 'Vettes! AND, they have the best lookin' wives!

VENT PAGES are handy for posting of off-topic posts, rants, raves, rages, etc, which might not be appropriate on other threads where adults are having serious discussions. Childish rant? Need to call another poster a name? Just feel like spouting off?  Or even if you have something to say and there doesn't seem to be any other logical place to say it....THIS PAGE IS FOR YOU!

While the "gearheads" of the sixties were still focusing on their wheels - their rods and custom cars - the incoming "Hippie" generation was more in tune with making love, not war! And, since the 67 Vette is our front page icon, we now have room to honor the 'ride' most favored by all self respecting Hippies of 1967....the last of the Generation 1 VW Microbuses!

Just announced....the Watauga School Board is meeting in CLOSED SESSION AGAIN to, once again discuss 'personnel' matters. The last time they did this was in regard to hiring a new coach - but, this time they are also going to 'seek legal advice' so it's anyones guess as to whether or not they will deal with their earlier mistake in hiring our supt of schools.

Here is an interesting article from the Watauga Democrat. The thing that strikes me is a town council that decided to hold a questionable closed session meeting is not going to let anyone know they did it. They will say the meeting was legal in the most general terms possible. It would be interesting to ask for the minutes of the closed session after the issue relative to it was settled. but then could you trust the minutes?

NewGuy- The cable network Discovery has a show called Fast N' Loud. They buy, fix up and sell special interest cars out of a Dallas garage called Gas Monkey. The episode tonight was about a '67- 427 Corvette.

Sark..I am a fan of the show and watch it all the time. I TIVO it, and have not yet seen the 'Vette episode but I am looking forward to it.

I like the show, but I will confess that I am only 1/2 hot rodder and 1/2 preservationist! As rare as good condition, original collectible cars are getting to be, it pains me sometimes when they modify a classic so radically that it can never be brought back to it's original state! Boyd Coddington did a lot of this and, as much as I appreciate his cars, I regret that some 'classics' are sacrificed to make them.

I think all early 'vettes should be restored to stock condition if possible - (but that's just me).

Another show I love is "Graveyard Cars"...I'm not a big MOPAR fan but I really appreciate the restoration work these guys do!

Also, I love "Chasing Classic Cars"!

(There's also a new show about some traders out of Lubbock...can't think of the name of the show but I stumbled across it once and would watch it again if I could find it!)

Was reading about Nathan Miller and the sales tax redistribution on HCP...good job Nathan!

Reader, I've been keeping up with that story too, but I'm not so sure its to our benefit. I had a couple of people today whine to me that the county would lose all that money. They don't care at all about Boone. I like Jeff but he should shut up in that comment thread to. Williamson is eating his lunch. You can't blame Greene or DiCola for that either. Hes making his own bed over there.

Anonymous said...

Williamson and Green make a great tag team! And it's Templeton making Williamson look like a fool. But you knew that, didn't you Deep Gap "Republcan"?.

Deep Gap Dem said...

Well, it's an interesting dialog and readers can see for themselves which party makes the most sense. Pam W says that there are 5 developers that have no problem with the regs.....Templeton asked for their names.

Turns out the alleged 5 developers only made inquiries of the town about the ordnance. From this, Ms W somehow concludes that they didn't have a problem.

Reminds me of something I heard once..."Just because you didn't get any complaints, doesn't mean all the parachutes worked well!"

Jeff needs to get in touch with Boone Planning and get the real scoop. He says he called. Lets see if they call him back and tell him the same thing they supposedly told Williamson. It would be even better of the paper called and got the scoop.

According to the article, there may be options for the county not to lose any funds and still change the way sales tax monies are dispersed. One would be to cut other municipal funding from the county to those towns that receive more sales tax revenue. The towns could decide if they wanted to replace what was cut with sales tax revenue.

Deep Gap Dem said...

Why does Jeff have to get in touch with anyone. You, er....I mean Pam W made the allegation. Let her support it. Who are the 5 developers. How did you, (oops, I mean Pam W) determine that they had no problem with the ordnance? Because they didn't call you and express them?

What percent of the sales taxes raised in Watauga county are raised in Boone? What percent in B.Rock?

Under the proposed reallocation, what percent of the sales tax revenue will be returned to Boone? What percent to B.Rock?

Thanks.

I was just making a suggestion and trying to participate on the blog. I'm not Williamson if thats what your thinking. Guess I'll butt out since not welcome.

guy faulkes said...

If you ask these questions, you should also asked where the people live that paid the taxes.

One of my mistakes that I realize now was voting for Ms. Greene. I thought she was a person who really wanted change in this county. Now I see it differently. A person with only retaliation on their mind is a person that will lose their dignity with others. I didn't attend the meeting of the GOP and regret it now.

Not being a developer, we do like to purchase property at times, so the UDO issue is a problem for me. Constantly adding stipulations to a UDO, for a town of our size, and most important for the purpose of self-satisfication...is shameful. Period.

NewGuy said...

anon 4:59...That's a good question and it would be interesting to know where these taxes are actually generated. Guy Faulkes - I like your point too, but I don't know how you would get that info. Sales tax reports would tell the location of the business collecting the taxes - but, they wouldn't indicate where the people making the purchases lived. I would guess that a substantial number of them would come from out of town though.

Reader - it's my observation that she is motivated more by her animosity toward certain Republican leaders than she is by any political philosophy. She has supported Democrats in (at least) the past 2 elections and has consistantly publicly criticized Republicans in her Ltrs to Editors, blogs, etc.

She's NOT a good loser!

I also have supported Democrats when I felt they were the more conservative or able and have consistently criticized the liberal Republican establishment. For instance, I supported John Bingham for Clerk of Court and Hagaman for Sheriff.

I do have to say I did it without animosity towards individuals, but with plenty toward political policies.

I do not believe in straight party politics.

If you are interested we are looking for candidates in the upcoming town elections. Contact me for more information.

NewGuy said...

As info for those few who might not know....Anne-Marie Yates is the Chair woman of the Watauga GOP.

Ann Marie, why don't you run? I think you would be excellent. Also Mary Rupp.

Reader said...

Congratulations on your new position, Anne-Marie, as you can tell...I'm just a Reader. The guys on here can tell you, I'm not a very wise person and in this day and time...we need wise people. The younger generation are a much better choice. My type B personality or probably C personality wouldn't be much help. So I'll remain in the shadows.

Guy, I have also supported some democrats in the past...sometimes it's worked out, sometimes I've been disappointed. Life to me is about seeking knowledge, understanding and wisdom. Knowledge is remembering information, understanding is why, how and what and the last for me would be to learn wisdom...to determine which one to apply next to do the right thing. I don't possess knowledge, understanding nor do I have wisdom...but I will continue to seek the right thing to do and the person who I think would be the best choice for a job. That's all any of us can do.

guy faulkes said...

Reader, saying you do not have wisdom is like saying Campbell's never heard of soup.

Does Jerry Butler live in town? I think he would be a good candidate. Also Mark Templeton.
