Dick Cheney comments On National Security
“As I’ve watched the events of the last few days it is clear once again that President Obama is trying to pretend we are not at war. He seems to think if he has a low key response to an attempt to blow up an airliner and kill hundreds of people, we won’t be at war. He seems to think if he gives terrorists the rights of Americans, lets them lawyer up and reads them their Miranda rights, we won’t be at war. He seems to think if we bring the mastermind of 9/11 to New York, give him a lawyer and trial in civilian court, we won’t be at war.
“He seems to think if he closes Guantanamo and releases the hard-core al Qaeda trained terrorists still there, we won’t be at war. He seems to think if he gets rid of the words, ‘war on terror,’ we won’t be at war. But we are at war and when President Obama pretends we aren’t, it makes us less safe. Why doesn’t he want to admit we’re at war? It doesn’t fit with the view of the world he brought with him to the Oval Office. It doesn’t fit with what seems to be the goal of his presidency – social transformation—the restructuring of American society. President Obama’s first object and his highest responsibility must be to defend us against an enemy that knows we are at war.”

Does It Matter Why They Hate Us?
I love the Libertarians...until they talk about national security. I'd take Ron Paul as Secretary of the Treasury in a minute but wouldn't let him anywhere near the Pentagon. This video is basically a shouting match but is does serve as a jumping off point to ask the question: "Does it matter why they hate us?" Ron Paul takes the view (as most liberals do) that it's our fault. The example he gives is factually (and fatally) flawed. This ignores centuries of hateful indoctrination. It ignores the religious zealotry practiced by evil-doers convinced they are doing the work of Allah. It ignores terrorist nations that fund and train the evil-doers. It ignores common sense.
We gnash our teeth and scratch our heads trying to figure out why they hate. It's even been posited on this blog that they kill themselves to get on the news. Well, that makes sense...NOT! This kind of thinking is behind President Obama's ridiculous plan to close Gitmo. Two of the four Yemeni terrorist that trained, funded and facilitated this last attempt were released from Gitmo in 2007. There are 95 more from Yemen waiting to be sent back. Even Diane Feinstein realizes the folly of this idea. Abdulmuttalab should have been sent straight to Gitmo and interrogated. Now he's lawyered up and has all the rights of an American citizen. All because Obama thinks closing Gitmo will make the terrorist hate us less.
We are not fighting this war for oil, imperialism, arrogance or revenge. We're fighting to save our civilization from death. We no longer have a President that understands this basic fact.

Attempted Terrorist Attack
I suppose it's alright to use the word "terrorist" because
the White House actually has. The terrorist embarked in Nigeria where security is notoriously lax. He flew from Nigeria to Amsterdam (where US Air Marshals are not permitted) to Detroit. Here's the first reporting from Detroit's Free Press.
We are now hearing he was on a watch list but not the no fly list. Foxnews is reporting we knew about his ties to Al Qaida as far back as two years. His father had at one time reported him to the authorities for his extreme religious views.
It should also be noted that the passengers of flight 93 with their heroic action on 9/11 changed forever the dynamics inside the plane in this and every future flight. The passengers prevented disaster.

Left On Left
We often debate the seemingly increasing similarities between the two parties. Another interesting angle to ponder is how the parties differences can be so far apart that they agree. I'm reminded of the debates between Ralph Nader and Pat Buchanan. They were polar opposites but agreed on many issues...for very different reasons. This article from the "Huffington Post" is long but I recommend it. President Obama has managed to alienate his base and the independents. He never had the right.
In our never ending quest for common ground we have joined hands with the opposition. Think about it. The base that's mad about no "public option" join those who are mad at too much "public option" in opposition to health care. The base who are upset about not withdrawing troops in Afghanistan rail against Obama along with those who think he's half-stepping in Afghanistan.
Any more anyone?

We Americans are really getting an in our face education as to how politics really works. The politicians are no longer even bothering to conceal their corruption.

China Not Impressed

President Obama tries to sell his "hope and change" to Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. The body language speaks volumes.

'Twas the Week Before Christmas* By CFIF Staff

'Twas the Week Before Christmas By CFIF Staff
Thursday, December 17 2009
'Twas the week before Christmas, when Congress met,
So eager they were, to pile on the debt;
They knew it was wrong, deep down in their core,
But golly gee whiz, they must spend, spend some more;
With constituents distracted by holiday cheer,
Why, this was their chance, to spend more this year;
So the politicians huddled, they plotted, they planned,
$1 trillion, $2 trillion, how much could they scam?
And that’s when it happened, Reid and Pelosi stood up,
“What’s another $2 trillion, the voters are chumps!”
They raised the debt ceiling with nary a care,
And once that was done, they didn’t stop there;
More rapid than eagles, agendas were set,
They whistled and shouted, “No, we’re not done yet!”
“On health care, on taxes, on Carbon Cap-and-Trade,
“We’ll say it’s the rich, but everyone pays!”
“And for those who oppose us,” Reid and Pelosi insist,
“One call to the White House, you’re on the enemies list!”
And so they proceeded with their devilish plans,
Big government to all, constituents be damned.

Whiny and unpresidential: Unlike Obama, Reagan never impugned his predecessor
“(Obama) is beginning to sound whiny — and unpresidential. Enough about the terrible mess he inherited. Let's hear a little more about the tremendous honor that has been bestowed on him. Ronald Reagan inherited a worse situation in 1980 — inflation at 13.5 percent; the prime rate at 21 percent; the Soviets in Afghanistan; American hostages in Tehran; communist coups in 10 new countries over the previous decade — but Reagan never impugned his predecessor. As biographer Lou Cannon noted "Reagan ... was generous to Carter in his public statements even though he did not care for him."

Spending to Save
Jay Leno: "Speaking on the budget in his speech on the economy this week, President Obama said that we have to continue to “spend our way out” of this recession. I don’t know much about economics, but aren't we like a trillion dollars in debt? Spending our way out of the recession? Isn’t that like trying to drink your way out of alcoholism."

A Powerful Message From Carly Fiorina
Carly Fiorino is the Republican trying to unseat Barbara Boxer in California. This video comes by way of HotAir. She was chosen to give the GOP weekly address and it's noteworthy because she doesn't mention Boxer, Obama or even the fact that she is campaigning despite the high profile opportunity. The message is profound given her experience with cancer. It's another example of the defacto "Death Panel".

Weed Patch
The last one went well so let's do it again. The party crashers, Algore canceling an appearance in Copenhagen and the jobs summit are a few possible topics. This also may be a good place for our liberal friends to gain some credibility by showing some outrage over climategate. None have so far. Any topic (within reason) is fair game. Have at it.

Dick Cheney Speaks Out
“Here’s a guy without much experience, who campaigned against much of what we put in place ... and who now travels around the world apologizing,” Cheney said. “I think our adversaries — especially when that’s preceded by a deep bow ... — see that as a sign of weakness.”
