45th Senate District Holds the Winning Raffle Ticket for NC

As she slowly pulled each of the tickets from the bowl, I could feel my heart quicken. We were at the drawing for the grand prize at the fund raiser for Dan Soucek, candidate for the 45th NC Senate District. Republicans had donated $100 each to his campaign and they gathered at the Meadowbrook last night for fun, food, and fellowship. The 160th ticket pulled from the bowl would bring the winner an all expense paid trip for two to either the Holy Land or Alaska--their choice. At 151st--my number. Rats!

For the winner, last year had been her worst as her own truck ran over her after she fell from it. Now this year she faced the trip of a lifetime. Her good fortune wiped away all disappointment.

I like to think in metaphors and on the way home, I thought of this year’s election. Democrats have controlled the North Carolina legislature for all but four years since 1898. With their ability to gerrymander and rig every modern election, their truck runs over us.

Dan Soucek can be that 160th ticket winner for our party. Projections are that if Dan carries the 45th District, the power shifts to conservatives in our state. This is the year for redistricting. We in the 45th District have an opportunity to make history!

Please Sir, Can I Have Some More?

What's so hard about saying the courts have no right to tell people what to eat? The MSM is calling this a "gotcha" question that will never come up but I'm not so sure. Think about it, if government is paying for health care then why wouldn't they say you aren't allowed live on a diet of bacon and Twinkies?

RIP Robert Byrd

"I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side... Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds."
-Robert Byrd (during the debate on integrating the armed services)

Clinton: The Voice Of Reason

I couldn't embed the video from Drudge but here's the link. Despite his personal and ethical shortcomings, the guy is a brilliant politician. If I didn't know him I'd like him. I definitely agree with him here. Notice how he praises Obama while at the same time slamming him for getting his priorities skewed. Clinton's #4 is Obama's #1. Clinton's got it right. He says send the Navy to blow up the well. When I suggested that at least one commenter's head blew up.

Clinton even knew about this.

Bush suspended the Jones Act within days of Katrina.

Obama doesn't have a clue.

Second Amendment Ratified By 5-4 Vote.

Barely.

Here's the story.

I confess the title is not my line. It's Rush's. It does put the verdict in the proper perspective. This is especially timely given the Kagan hearings begin today. Justice Stevens, whom Kagan is slated to replace, dissented so the court won't change much...yet. We're one vote away from watching the final corner of the Constitution spiral down the toilet with Obama's hand on the flusher.

This is from the concurrence (page 34 here) written by Justice Thomas citing the debate in the 39th Congress:

“Every man . . . should have the right to bear arms for the defense of himself and family and his homestead. And if the cabin door of the freedman is broken open and the intruder enters for purposes as vile as were known to slavery, then should a well-loaded musket be in the hand of the occupant to send the polluted wretch to another world, where his wretchedness will forever remain complete.”

How can Obama criticize that?

Response to Liberal POV Concerning Afghanistan

Liberal POV, a regular commenter on this blog, commented: “Stop heckling and say what you think should be done in Afghanistan.” “What's been Obama's mistake here buying into this war?”

Because it sounded like a sincere question for a change, I decided I needed to reply to his challenge. But first, here are other excerpts from his comment: “I've posted many time that history and geography are against us in Afghanistan. I don't trust Karzai nor do I believe the Afghan people trust him. We can't kill our way to victory, we must have support from locals on the ground and no foreign invader has ever had that in Afghanistan.”

POV: We may be partially on the same page for a change. Obama and your side got us into the Afghan mess when you liberals backed yourselves into a corner. Obama ran on “Bush is in the wrong war. Where we should be is Afghanistan.” So, he had to go to Afghanistan. O.K. Now we are there. It turns out that Al Queda is not in Afghanistan but is in Pakistan, Yemen and other failed states like Somalia. Just as you said Bush should have come home when he did not find weapons of mass destruction, now you need to say Obama should come home when he did not find Al Queda.

You ask me what should be done. O.K. Here it is. To stop this slaughter, you, and left wing Democrats, plus the great unwashed on your side, need to take to the streets. If you read what I quoted from the Rolling Stone in my first comment it was: "If Americans pulled back and started paying attention to this war, it would become even less popular," a senior adviser to McChrystal says.” That message was addressed to you and yours. This war will end when you and yours stand on your principles and do what was done to stop the Viet Nam war. Unfortunately, I don’t think you are ready yet to do this because it would mean confronting your spiritual leader.

However, where I differ from you is that I think the war should be fought with drones, special ops and the CIA. I have said before, we cannot win a war any longer if we have to worry about collateral damage. We can keep the enemy off balance however with asymmetric methods. Blogger

A Very Cool Map

Liberal policies drive people away and Conservative policies draw them in. I found this to be very interesting. Make sure to click the link to the interactive map and try it yourself.

Obama's Katrina

The results are in.

Wedding of the Century

Noted bigot gets married by black preacher as openly gay man serenades. The tolerant left reacts.

“What a pathetic excuse for a human being, and I'm talking about Elton John ... SHAME ON YOU ELTON,"

"Elton, how could you? Regardless of the gay issue, Limbaugh makes millions preaching hate. Elton, as a gay man, threw his cause under the bus. Wonder if they have the same drug dealer? Could that be the common denominator?"

"Elton will take Limbaugh’s money and give it to his AIDS foundation. If Limbaugh kept it, he would just use it to buy illegal Vicodin."

"Rush’s legion of young boys overseas will be upset when they get the news. Wonder if he’ll still try to visit them?"

"This is disgusting. Elton John is so hard up for a million that he’ll perform at this pig’s wedding?

Alabama Candidate Tells It.

Thanks to Wolf's Head for the link.

I appreciate the unvarnished truth presented in the context of history. Alabama's on a roll. Remember Dale Peterson? I hope they do well.

More Tolerence From The Left

And they say we're bad.

Here's more.

If that's not enough click "Vandalism, Violence, Hateful Rhetoric and Racism" on the left margin under Blogger's picture. It's noteworthy that both of these incidents happened in North Carolina.

Whose Side Is He On?

As President Obama tries to decide whether to support a UN investigation regarding the recent Gaza flotilla incident, the President of the Palestinian Authority and Egypt are saying keep the blockade. As President Obama handcuffs Israel's ability to deal with Iran, Saudi Arabia has given Israel the okay to use her air space to militarily take out Iran's nuclear sites. As oil spews Obama plays golf. As the President blames the everything he can (too many links to list) on everyone else he tells high school graduates not to make excuses. He rammed through health care reform over the objections of the people. Spending is poised to overtake the GDP crippling the economy for future generations. Whose side is he on? Certainly not ours.

California's Immigration Law More Restrictive Than Arizona's

Muchas gracias a Guy Faulkes. Wonder where this has been all during the California bashing of Arizona?

California has an immigration law more restrictive than that of AZ Cal Code s843. The last sentence requires local law enforcement to abide by Immigration laws and turn over all illegal aliens they encounter to Border Patrol. Wonder why this is not being done?

834b. (a) Every law enforcement agency in California shall fully cooperate with the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service regarding any person who is arrested if he or she is suspected of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws. (b) With respect to any such person who is arrested, and suspected of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws, every law enforcement agency shall do the following: (1) Attempt to verify the legal status of such person as a citizen of the United States, an alien lawfully admitted as a permanent resident, an alien lawfully admitted for a temporary period of time or as an alien who is present in the United States in violation of immigration laws. The verification process may include, but shall not be limited to, questioning the person regarding his or her date and place of birth, and entry into the United States, and demanding documentation to indicate his or her legal status. (2) Notify the person of his or her apparent status as an alien who is present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws and inform him or her that, apart from any criminal justice proceedings, he or she must either obtain legal status or leave the United States. (3) Notify the Attorney General of California and the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service of the apparent illegal status and provide any additional information that may be requested by any other public entity. (c) Any legislative, administrative, or other action by a city, county, or other legally authorized local governmental entity with jurisdictional boundaries, or by a law enforcement agency, to prevent or limit the cooperation required by subdivision (a) is expressly prohibited
