Wiki Weasel

I don't even know where to begin. On the week the Obama administration seizes dozens of domain names to send a message about copyright infringement they show utter impotence to do anything about Wikileaks endangering the lives of patriots. The leaks also illustrate the world has not changed with Obama's divine intervention. They shine light on the folly of his campaign rhetoric.

There are too many details to detail. There are too many ramifications to ramify. There are too many layers to lay out. Consider this an open Wiki thread.

The Big Chill

President Obama has proposed a two year pay freeze for federal employees. He is framing the move as shared sacrifice. Let's look at it.

The federal workforce has grown dramatically since Obama took office. The pay for those employees has also risen dramatically with the number of $150,000 plus jobs doubling. The Federal workforce has become an albatross.

Now Obama wants to lock it in and call it a sacrifice. It's devious as hell. How about actually cutting federal salaries from a 2008 baseline? Everyone else has had to cut back. Government cost too much, it's not rocket science.

As you might imagine, federal employees are not happy although they should be. It's funny they are calling the pay freeze a pay cut. Sound familiar?

This shows the fallacy of compromise. Freezing salaries for two years is not a sacrifice. It is not a compromise. We are way past the need for half measures and platitudes. The compromise of spending a little less as opposed to a lot less leads to disaster. Raising taxes on only the rich as opposed to everyone leads to disaster. Compromise is a disaster.

Incompetence Or Fundamental Transformation?

I have been amazed at the request of commenter "Jack" to give suggestions for how to fix the economy. The premise is so whacked that I can't fathom a response. To even ask the question one must accept that the root cause was Bush and his "failed policies". The meme goes like this: "Bush, with his two wars and tax cuts for the rich got us into such a mess poor President Obama needs more time to fix it." The talking points abound: "It took us eight years to get here, President Obama can't be expected to turn it around in two."; "He's doing all he can do, what more do you want?"; And finally culminating with, "What would you do?!"

To me, and I suspect a lot of my friends, the assumptions are so distant from reality I automatically assume most people don't buy it. Do people really believe Obama is trying to fix anything? And then the likes of "Jack" comes along and is incredulous that I don't believe Obama is doing all he can do in the wake of terrible odds. He inherited such a mess, don'tcha know. BS, the only thing Obama "inherited" is the greatest economy (with BTW the greatest health care system) in the world , a world without the threat of Sadaam Hussein, a world with Osama Bin Laden cowering in the same cave he must crap in. I don't think Obama is a victim of Bush, sue me.

We had all the evidence we needed to know who this man was and is. One does not promise to "fundamentally transform" something they love and respect. His views on the Constitution are downright dismissive and terrifying. His spiritual mentor is a froth-mouthed madman. His "Green Jobs Czar" was a Communist. His communications director is a Mao fan. There were even Mao ornaments on the White House Christmas tree. The Socialist were well represented at the recent "One Nation" rally which was an "Organizing For America" event. His ties to terrorist Bill Ayers are deeper than he let on and why would that be a surprise?

The bottom line is our President is a radical agitator. That's all he's ever known. It's all he knows how to do. To make matters worse he cut his teeth in Chicago so there is thuggery sprinkled all over his dastardly agenda. He does not have our back.

Recount confirms Gable victory

Republican Vince Gable wins the county commissioner race against Democratic incumbent Billy Ralph Winkler by 68 votes after today's recount. In the 24th District judge's race, Hal Harrison and Gary Gavenus each gained one vote in Watauga, but five-county totals may not be decided until the State Board of Elections votes on Nov. 23. The new spam blocker that Google Blogger has instituted is awesome. So far in the short time it has been in operation, it has blocked nearly 100 pieces of Spam.

I am telling you readers this just in case some comment you make disappears unexpectedly. If it does, please alert us and we will try to find it. If we can't, we apologize in advance, as the attempts to spam us are endless and we may not always find your legitimate comment. We will certainly try if you give us a heads up. Meanwhile, be grateful that you don't have to find out where you can find sexy girls in Amsterdam or get Viagra on line, etc., I guess.

Recount Called for in County Commissioner and Judge Race

Posted by New Guy:

VINCE GABLE just posted this on his Facebook Page "Vince Gable For County Commissioner"

"Vince Gable for County Commissioner Okay, I guess I have to wait a bit longer. They called for a recount. I don't know when that will happen but swearing in is scheduled for Dec 6th. All indications are that everything will be okay as there has been no history of errors with the machines we use. Two precincts have been recounted as a state ordered check and there were no problems. I guess I'll just go hunting."

I thought it might be of interest to some.

Comment: I really don't blame Billy Ralph OR the dem party. It was a close race and the control of the county commission is at stake.

GOOD LUCK VINCE....you will be a great county commissioner!

Quantitative Easing Explained

This is why our embattled President has become the laughing stock of the world. His embarrassing performance at the G20 summit has been panned by the right and the left. He either has no idea what he is doing or knows exactly what he's doing, I don't know which would be worse.

CALL YOUR REPUBLICAN SENATOR NOW: Support Senator Jim DeMint’s Earmark Ban

EARMARK BAN
Senator Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) is offering an resolution next Tuesday during the first meeting of Senators serving in the 102nd Congress. The DeMint Resolution would be a statement that the Senate Republican Conference will not take earmarks for the next two years.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kent.) is opposing this measure and whipping his members to beat back the effort by DeMint for a two year earmark moratorium. McConnell isn’t the only Senator calling other members to oppose this new conference resolution. Just look at the roster of Republicans on the Senate Appropriations Committee to see members working the phones to defeat this measure.

Here is what I need you to do. Call your Republican Senator at 202-224-3121and ask him or her if she is going to vote for the DeMint resolution. Next, ask for the staffer that handles appropriations. You sound like an insider if you say: “Can I talk to the LA that handles approps for the Senator?” This line will not work for campaigns, but will work well for Senators.

Next, ask specifically if the Senator is supporting Senator DeMint’s resolution to ban earmarks for two years for the Senate Republican Conference. If they dodge, ask for their name and get a specific statement whether they are a Yes, No or Undecided.

I called Sen. Burr's office but forgot to ask if he was a yes.

Debt Commission Report

In February President Obama by executive order established the bipartisan National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform. The co-chairs are Republican Alan Simpson and Democrat Erskine Bowles.

Erskine Bowles is a hard core Democrat and the former Clinton Chief of staff but I always found him to be fair minded. Alan Simpson's Conservative credentials are solid. He and Dick Cheney served as Wyoming's Senators together. He is very eloquent even if he is a little full of himself. Like most commissions, I thought it was a bunch of hooey designed to give cover. Rush Limbaugh was certain the final verdict would be to raise taxes. At first glance, I'm moderately impressed. It seems Rush and I were both wrong, they address previously untouchable issues and take no prisoners. Tax cuts are central. The biggest indication they might be on to something is the outrage mainly from the left.

There is plenty of punditry and overview about it such as this. I always try to go to the horses mouth. Here is the actual report.

It's Earmarks Stupid!

EARMARXISTS "Mitch McConnell is privately trying to get enough votes to kill an earmarks moratorium." "Earmarks are certainly not the only issue, but they are the most telling as to whether Republicans really have learned their lesson in the minority."

Aleady I Am Angry With the Republican Leadership, No Women, No Tea Partiers

This post is to ask the opinion of those readers who are either Tea Partiers or have positive feelings toward the Tea Party.

This morning, on Fox New Sunday, Chris Wallace asked Eric Cantor why the leadership is supporting Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas over Tea Party member Rep. Michelle Bachman for the fourth in line leadership position. Cantor responded that he and Hensarling have worked well in the past.

Chris Wallace hearing what Cantor said loud and clear, responded would not the people see that as just more of “the same good old boy politics?” Cantor squirmed.

Already, I am angry at our new leadership and I believe if they diss Bachman, they will be dissing the Tea Party at their great peril. They better dance with the ones who brought them, or they will soon be dancing alone.

I want those who feel the same to let me know and I will send your responses to Rep. Foxx.

Jay Leno on the Election

Jay Leno
All year long, the Democrats were telling people to “get out and vote.” Then people told the Democrats, “We voted, now get out!”

I loved how the different news networks covered the elections. On MSNBC, it was called "Election Night 2010: What Went Wrong?" At Fox News, it was "Election Night 2010: Party!"

Jimmy Kimmel
Thousands of marijuana enthusiasts went to the polls this morning in California to support Prop 19. Unfortunately, the election was the day before.

President Comforts Us

Wasn’t it comforting when the president assured us that he could understand why he might have confused us? After nationalizing one sixth of the economy for health care, the banks, the car companies, the student loan program, and a stab at the power companies, it turns out that he is not an ideologue leftest after all. He was just trying to save us from emergencies. Gee, and we were afraid that was the way he intended to govern. What dummies we all are.

At least he didn’t use Flip Wilson’s “The devil made me do it.”

Is Obama a Keynesian?

Obama Working with Republicans Now

Commenting on Obama's promise to work with Republicans, Dick Army said, "There is a problem here of credibility. You can't tell a girl all week that she is ugly, then ask her to go with you to the prom"

"Yet Another" Wins Midterm Contest

Thanks to all participants and congratulations to "Yet Another"!

I'm assuming everyone was okay with my rules because I received no complaints. There are still 2 Senate seats and 11 House Seats undecided but it's mathematically impossible for anyone to beat "Yet Another". Here are my methods and logic:

In the House, Republicans are now at +60. That's the floor, the ceiling is +71 if all 11 undecided go Republican. I ran the numbers on all entries assuming Republicans gain 65 seats. If someone leads by more than 6 that means it's mathematically impossible for anyone to beat them whether the end result is +60 (Democrats win all undecideds) or +71 (Republicans win all undecideds). I am not sure how many seats would actually flip but the scenario assumes all undecided races will flip. As long as the lead is over 6 it doesn't matter mathematically.

In the Senate Republicans are now at +6 with 2 undecided. Alaska will be Republican whether Murkowski or Miller wins and it will not be a Republican gain because they already hold the seat. That leaves Washington where a Republican win means a pick-up. In the Senate Republicans will be either +6 or +7.

Here are the entries with the score after "House" (assuming+65) and the score after "Senate" showing both scenarios, +7 in parenthesis. The numbers after the name represent the final score. Please everyone, check my math, methods and logic.

Final Predictions, Wish Lists and Live Blogging

Anyone who has yet to make a prediction in our midterm contest has until 5:00PM tomorrow (Tuesday, Nov. 2) to do so. That's before most polls close so we'll let it go until then. The prize is your own thread on any subject (within reason). Commenter Sarkazein predicted the results will not be known until January and he may be right. It's still not too late for him to revise the prediction with some numbers but he does bring to notice a potential problem. Some results may not be known for a bit, that may affect when we can announce a winner.

For rules and to participate, click the "Midterm Contest" page found in the left margin of the main page. Or here.

While we can still hope, it might be fun to weigh in on a top 3 (or so) individual races. I'll go first, my top three hopes for change (majorities aside):

I hope Allen West in Florida wins.
I hope Barney Frank Loses.
I hope Barbara Boxer Loses.

I would also like to extend an invitation to everyone to weigh in often tomorrow night for some live blogging as the results come in.
