House Does Its Work

AS THE BILL PASSED A FEW MINUTES AGO KRAUTHAMMER SAID WE NEED TO INFORM THE PEOPLE, “THE HOUSE PASSES BILLS. THE PRESIDENT MAKES SPEECHES. THE SENATE KILLS BILLS.”

I thought most readers of this blog would appreciate it.

Legislation, Vetos, Veto Overrides, NC - Next Up - Voter ID FRAUD ??

The NC Senate has followed the house with it's override of Governor Bev Perdue's veto of the Woman's Right To Know Act. Recent Civitas Polls indicate that 56% of voters support the bill while 36% opposed it. Once again, the NC Legislature has voted with the people and against the governor! Maybe they can do the same with the Voter ID bill which, while supported by the vast majority of North Carolinians, was vetoed by Perdue.

Don't think voter fraud is a problem?

Health Care Rationing?

Nah! That could never happen. Look how great socialized government run health care is working in the UK....

Well, except for maybe one or two little things...

It is About My Reelection, Stupid!--Obama

In this present debt crisis debate, the Republicans won the argument that there have to be substantial cuts. Then they won the argument of no tax hikes. So, now what? Oh, now the president won’t sign unless the extension gets us past the election.

Geithner tells us Sunday that we are not to be thinking this has anything to do with Obama’s reelection campaign, but that short term extensions create uncertainty. Wall Street will get rattled. (You can’t make these things up.)

This morning Obama’s senior advisor, apparently aware that Geithner’s lame excuse needed help, came up with their latest. When challenged by Chuck Todd that six month extensions are routine, the advisor’s new spin was, “Well, it never has been tied to debt reduction.” (And, I was eating my breakfast without a barf bag handy.)

The real reason the president wants this subject off the front pages is because the more it is grabbing people’s attention, the better they are understanding it. It is all about him. Click On Morris

How much longer can the Democracy survive?

Prof. Alexander Frazer Tytler has written, that a democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover they can vote themselves largesse out of the public treasury. From that moment on the majority, he said, always vote for the candidate promising the most benefits from the treasury with the result that democracy always collapses over a loose fiscal policy, always to be followed by a dictatorship

OK Since the "SURVIVAL OF DEMOCRACY" thread has been turned into a discussion about "LIVING WAGE".

I have moved the discussion about the survival of the democracy to another thread. If you want to discuss Living Wage issues, this is your thread. If you want to discuss the downfall of the democracy because of the majority voting themselves funds from the public treasury, you can do so:

Now Obama Gets the Blame! Dick Morris TV: Lunch ALERT!

Excerpts from Best Critique of Obama vs Boehner So Far This Morning

“The speech itself was part panic attack, part platitudes and a whole lot of class warfare (corporate jets! hedge fund managers!). He stood awkwardly at the East Room podium, minus any press corps. He began with a ponderous recap of the budget train wreck, and then described his grand bargain (light on the details, because, of course, he never put a concrete plan out there). He ridiculed the Republican plan, saying

I thought this was an interesting article....particularly in light of the difficulty Deborah Greene and others have had in obtaining information from our own school board.

Who is the Irresponsible One?

Guy Faulkes This link was put up by Guy on Vent Page X. Ran across some more from today’s WSJ op ed. In commenting on the president’s charges that Republicans are irresponsible, the writer says "As to "irresponsibility," isn’t this charge more logically leveled at an administration that, rather than assuring the faith and credit of the United States will never be compromised under any circumstance, takes seemingly every opportunity to suggest that it might? Or, to suggest to seniors that their Social Security checks are at risk when the means to preserve their benefits are so readily available.

More of YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK

Obama "cannot gurantee" social security checks

As of December 2008, approximately $2.4 Trillion of the $4.3 Trillion in Intragovernmental Holdings is held in the Old-Age and Survivors and Disability Insurance (OASDI) Trust Fund (Social Security). It is currently projected that Social Security tax receipts will exceed Social Security payments until 2017. In other words, the amount of Treasuries held in the Trust Fund will keep increasing for the next seven years. In even more words, payroll tax receipts will exceed Social Security payments for the next seven years.
Unforgiveable to try to scare Senior Citizens this way.  He has no shame!

Obama Lets Cat Out of the Bag on Social Security

Today, Rush finally talked about what we have been pointing out for weeks. That is, by threatening Social Security, Obama let a cat out of the bag. The money people thought they and their employees was being put away for them, is gone.

If my memory serves me, it was way back in the 1990's, the then Sen. Moynihan revealed the lock box of Social Security had been sprung, and in place of our deposits, there were only IOU’s. He warned then there may come a day when those IOU’s could not be covered. Well folks, Obama has confessed. Here we are.

NC Senate goes 6-for-6 on overriding Perdue vetoes

In todays NC SENATE session...

The Republican-led Senate made quick work Wednesday of Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue's vetoes by overriding all six returned to the chamber since the General Assembly last left town, including medical malpractice litigation changes and a bill targeting the state's largest teacher lobbying group.

Government and Your Money

While Obama is telling oldsters that they might not get their August SS payments, his Department of HHS is mailing out cash payments of $2.00 each to various individuals whom they wish to complete a survey. Of course, they are addressed to you by name - "or current resident" just like a lot of the junk mail you receive and of course a large amount of this money is going to be put in the trash can unopened and end up in landfills.

Watauga County Tax Distribution to Towns

Good article in the on line Democrat....about how Watauga county distributes sales tax revenues. Essentially, If the county switches from a population based distribution to an ad-valorem distribution, the town of Boone will lose substantial funding while other towns in the area will have increases.

What About That Debt Ceiling?

The debate is raging and I am curious about two things. During the historic 2010 election it was a given the debt ceiling would have to be raised. Now, not so much. President Obama is in as weak of a position as one can imagine.

1) What is your definition of Republicans caving? Is it any raising of the debt limit no matter what the trade off? Or is it anything less than a Constitutional amendment to balance the budget, or big time tax cuts, or big time spending cuts, or something else?

2) How (if at all) has your thinking evolved in the last 6 months?

For me, I am somewhere in between the high bar that freshmen like Marco Rubio and Rand Paul have set and no way in hell. My thinking has evolved and I'm wondering if we don't stop the madness now then when can we? I also am not falling for the doom and gloom scenarios being pounded into our heads. I was at first but should have known better. If the term "debt ceiling" is to have any meaning at all then we need to draw a line in the sand.

Beware The Phony Budget Cuts

If you and I were to look at our household budgets with a determination to reduce our spending, we would probably intend to spend less in future years than we are spending at the present time. That is, if we are to cut our household budget, we would look at this years spending levels and plan on a reduced level of spending in next years budget.

Not so our federal government. No, what we do is we look at our current spending rates and then project them to INCREASE over time at an inflated rate. Then, when we talk about "cuts", we are actually talking about increasing spending at a rate LESS than what we otherwise might have spent.

Sort of like telling your boss that you planned on a 20% pay raise for next year, but since you want to help him reduce his costs, you are going to accept a 15% raise and thus "save" the company 5%.

In Washington dollars, a $2 trillion dollar "cut" means an increase that is $2 Trillion less than what it COULD have been....It's still an increase but voters will not look beyond the headlines.

EPA Funds Green Groups That Sue The Agency To Expand

First the EPA gives grant money to these "green groups"..

Then the EPA advises citizens/group members on how to sue the EPA

Then the lawsuits begin and EPA 'settles' them....Is this really the way we want government to run?

"
When the Environmental Protection Agency said in late June that it would force Western coal-fired power plants to install haze-reducing pollution-control equipment at a cost of $1.5 billion a year, it said it had to in order to settle a lawsuit by environmental groups.
One organization involved in the suit, the Environmental Defense Fund, has a long history of taking the EPA to court. In fact, a cursory review finds almost half a dozen cases in the past 10 years.
The odd thing is that the EPA, in turn, has handed EDF $2.76 million in grants over that same period, according to an IBD review of the agency's grant database...."
