Sarkazein, you wondered if there should be a special page for deleted Lib’s comments.  Are you sure?  On just one day alone last month, we deleted, moved, or let stand, comments which included the following:
13 times with the question: What are the Republican/Conservative solutions?
11 fussing about being moved or deleted
  6 a long poem either posted or linked to
  5 accusations against Republicans or of us of either bigotry, racism, fear mongering or all of  them
  4 of either moral decay or morally bankrupt
  2 petty Republicans
  1 insanity over Republican party
   And  I  counted only one for each comment, some had more than one of the above

AND EACH DAY WE HAVE TO READ ALL THESE!  How would you like this job?

Taxes, Representation, The ETJ and the County Authority....

I'm sure most readers of this blog are familiar with the background on this issue, some of which can be found here, more here in part 2 of that thread, a little bit more involving some tax reallocation possibilities here, and even reluctance of the town to meet in public spaces with the BOC to discuss the matter!(click here)
All this over the town's position that, in spite of the state statute which gives the county the appointment authority to appoint the ETJ representatives to the BOA and Planning Commission, the town is resisting the counties right to make these appointments.

I have been unable to find any serious follow up reporting on the "resignation" of Ashe County Manager Dan Mcmillan.

I did read the following in a recent editorial in the Ashe Mountain Times:
"The county manager serves at the will of the commissioners, carrying out their objectives and goals to the best of his ability. Similarly, the commissioners are elected to carry out the objectives and wishes of the taxpayers. In the event of irreconcilable differences, the commissioners have the option to change managers, and the voters have the option to change commissioners. Only, we don't know the truth. And that is unfair."

Which, I think, pretty well sums up the feelings of the people I have heard from on this issue.....

I attended a function recently and heard State Representative Jonathon Jordan speak about the legislative accomplishments of the last session. Among other things, he pointed out that the budget for Public School education which the legislature passed (over Governor Perdue's Veto) was only .6% less than what the governor herself had proposed.

What's Going On In Ashe County? Bumped forward.....

I read a recent article in the Jefferson Post about the Ashe County manager Dan McMillan resigning his position. In his resignation letter, McMillan referenced "tensions" between himself and county commissioners. He also mentioned in his letter that he was resigning  " effective this 29th day of July, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. with the agreement of a severance package through Dec. 31, 2011"

Maxine Waters "The Tea Party Can Go STRAIGHT To HELL!""

Oh yeah, another Democrat example of their desire to "tone down the rhetoric"...demonstrated on the news by Maxine Waters!

And then I heard Democrat Political Wonk Bob Beckel saying that dems were "against everything the Tea Party stands for."

So naturally I asked myself..."Why the hate?" "Why are they so against the Tea Party?"....so I went to the Boone Tea Party website (click here)  to see EXACTLY what do these people stand for....

and I found my answer there:

What We Stand For:

• Limited government
• Fiscal responsibility
• Free market solutions
• State sovereignty
• Rule of law
• Individual rights and liberties
• Personal moral responsibility

Well, no wonder dems are so upset. Of course Bob Beckel is right....everything that the Dems are against seems to be what the Tea Party people are after!

While many "regular" people might not agree with everything the Tea Party wants, I doubt that most Americans will share Maxine Waters' and Bob Beckel's opinions that their 'agenda' is that bad! In fact, I would guess that more people share the Tea Party vision of American Government than the one advanced by Congresswoman Waters or Mr. Beckel.

Please remind everyone about the history and principals of the US Constitution class being held by the Institute of the Constitution at Harvest House at 247 Boone Heights Drive, Boone, NC  Classes begin Monday, August 29, 2011 for 12 weeks each Monday from 6-8 pm. Each class will include a 30 minute lecturer by Dr. John Eidsmore of Faulkner University. "Don't miss this opportunity to learn how America can recover its lost freedoms and the legacy of Liberty our Founding Fathers fought to preserve."

No cost for class.  It may be too late to get workbooks (costs $40 for adults and $30 for students) which are optional.

Some Questions About APPALCART....

When driving by the new APPALCART building under construction on the 105 by-pass, you can't help but notice that construction has come to a standstill. This is the facility that we were told would be operating my mid 2010, (HCP AUGUST 09 - " By July 2010, AppalCART will debut a new facility in Watauga County thanks to funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act".): later we were told spring of 2011, later again we were told July 2011 and now? Who knows?

Would any private business operate this way? Yes, there can be construction delays because of weather, work stoppages, unforeseen site problems and a host of other reasons....but why is it that government sponsored projects always seem to be the ones most affected?.

Mr. President--"Stay on Vacation"

As one who believes in the founders original vision of  balanced and limited government, I have been asking myself  lately should I be upset because the president is out of Washington.  Quoting Will Rogers: “No man's life, liberty or fortune is safe while our legislature is in session.”   That goes for when the president is working as well.

Because we believe the Central Government’s role should be to create the conditions that allow free enterprise to flourish, how did  we come to this place of saying “The president needs to lead?”

Actually, our mantra for this president should be: “This president needs to get the hell out of the way!”  Mr.  President, stay on vacation!

Appeals Court Rules on Obamacare

ATLANTA (AP) - A federal appeals court has struck down the requirement in President Barack Obama's health care overhaul package that virtually all Americans must carry health insurance or face penalties.
A divided three-judge panel of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday struck down the so-called individual mandate, siding with 26 states that had sued to block the law.
But the decision didn't go as far as a lower court that had invalidated the entire overhaul as unconstitutional.
The states and other critics say the law violates people's rights. The Justice Department counters that the legislative branch was exercising a "quintessential" power.
An appeals court and three federal judges have upheld the law, and two have invalidated it. Experts say the debate ultimately will be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Help Stamp Out Bad Blog Manners

Psychologists teach that if you want to increase a behavior of someone, you increase the good consequences.  If you want to decrease the behavior, you make the consequences painful, or you ignore it so the behavior has neither good nor bad consequences.

School teachers for example, often inadvertently increase the bad behavior in their classes by over responding to the acting out child, while ignoring the child with the good behavior.  It is difficult to get teachers to realize that attention is the exact reinforcement the acting out child seeks.

Unfortunately, when a child has had bad behavior reinforced over time, and the teacher changes his/her behavior, the first response is for the child to increase the noxious acts.  He or she at first cannot believe what is happening, so the behavior intensifies, perseverates.  Only when he or she is convinced that what worked before no longer works, will he/she change.

An example of this principle is also demonstrated on this blog.
