Caribbean Tunnel

Here's a tough one for us to track down, so any help from you is appreciated!

Truth Bombs

Kevin posted about this Caribbean tunnel network and we're having a hard time tracking down the exact origin of this theory. Now, we know that Kevin loves him some fake tunnels, but this underwater foray is new.

The story goes that there exists a network of underwater tunnels connecting Miami to parts of Mexico, and large parts of the Caribbean islands. The tunnels are, apparently, used to traffic illegal and malicious activities throughout the region and used by the "deep state" or "cabal" or whatever other scary name you'd like to slap on. It's claimed that construction began in 2009 (or 2008, depending on the source) and ran through 2011.

Most, if not all, conspiracy theories are grounded in some semblance of truth and reality. They simply take one or two facts and twist, expand, or otherwise fantasize them into a new identity. The origin story of these tunnels, however, are a little difficult to track down - if you know of anything, please let us know!

Rush hour traffic is horrendous out of Cancun

Here's our patchwork explanation so far:

Most of what we've read about the Caribbean International Tunnel highway system, or I-95U ("U" for Underwater) comes from conspiracy theory websites and online groups. But other sites clearly list the tunnel system as fake, clearly stating:

"The Florida-Haiti Interstate Tunnel and the Caribbean International Highway project is fake. Please remain calm and view this article as an imaginary work of fiction."

So where did this come from? It seems to have its roots in a real Miami tunnel project, completed around the same general timeline. The Port of Miami Tunnel does just that, connects to the Port of Miami.

Now that we have a real-life springboard, let's have some fun! You'll read that the Caribbean tunnel project is the work of the Union of Everett.....which, turns out, is a fictional world with a great backstory used for gameplay and other fantasy/sci-fi endeavors.

Used as a "constructed world", it's quite a fascinating country to check out! Unfortunately, Kevin thinks this is all real.
